I just learned that Lou Gottlieb of the Limelighters passed away on July 11th
of this year of intestinal cancer. If this information was posted here I
missed it and I am sorry if I am repeating old news.

No one will ever be able to match the wit and linguistic ability of Dr Lou
Gottlieb. He will be missed.

His obituary was not widely circulated in the press.

We had the opportunity to chat briefly with all three of the
original Limeliters when Glenn Yarbrough and the Limeliters performed
at the Alex Theatre in Glendale, California earlier this summer. It
was an honor to meet them again, and the show will be a fond
remembrance of the concerts of my youth.

We were able to see the Limeliters perform at the Kerrville Folk Festival
in June of this year. It was especially poignant to learn of Lou
Gottleib's death the following month. His musical knowledge and
performance (particularly his droll humor) will be missed. On a personal
note, The Limeliters were the one and only folk concert my father, a rural
gentleman, now deceased, ever attended (escorting me while I was in high
school). My father's summary of "Those boys sure can sing" may be as
fitting a tribute as I can find and reflects their ability to connect with
folks of all backgrounds. This past June, hearing Lou perform "Have some
Madeira..." (while at the same time hearing my father's laugh) was a
moving experience. Thanks, Lou Gottlieb, for your contributions to our
world as well as for the memories you have given. Karen Ward
