How about the old ska song "Oh, Carolina" by the Folkes Brothers. What a great
tune. probably hard to find, but it's on a few compilations and Shaggy did an
OK dub-dance version of it two years ago.

I think (ugh) Material issue had a Caroline song. If Jim Ellison shagged a
girl named Caroline, they do, anyway.

good luck.

The album is called just "Matching Mole" -- the rest of the album is jazzy
progressive rock, but Oh Caroline is a pretty, folkish ballad, sung by Robert
Wyatt.

On an ollllllldddd Charlie Daniels (Band) album, late 70s I
believe, called "Full Moon" there is a song called, "Carolina."

It's really a pretty song (yes, I know it's CDB) and one of my

No, it's not on that one... (To help in the search, it's NOT on Portrait

"Sweet Caroline" - Neil Diamond
"Carolina In The Pines" - Michael Murphy?
"Caroline" (pronounced Caro-leen) - Bob Welch (formerly of Fleetwood Mac
way back) - cool obscure song from his somewhat underrated "French Kiss"

Here's one real obscuro:

"Caroline" by Illinois 60s group the Shandels. This was only released
on a local 45 label called Sizzle. In recent years it has been reissued
on a compilation LP called Back From The Grave vol 6 (Crypt records).
It's a real good fratrock number by the way.

Singers - Caroline Paton

Song - If you want to stretch to Carolina, there's Bob Coltman's "The Last
Minstrel Show" which has a chorus of

Lay me down, Carolina, Lay me down.
Don't want to wake up in the morning no more.
Sing me one sad old song for this one last old time
Before they close the minstrel show.

This was recorded by a number of people.

and nanci griffith sings a version of it too. well, it starts out
"the name she gave was caroline, daughter of a miner..." and well, its
really sad but its the story of this girl named caroline.
i saw nanci perform it once a couple of summers ago on the fourth of
july and before she started, she said "...and god bless caroline" i
thought that was touching. anyway...

Being a student at Cardiff Uni, I've been lucky enough to be able to see
and speak to them quite a few times, and have watched them as they've got
more and more successful. They are all really top people, although Euros
the singer has got a bit more of an attitude now! On the personal front,
they all met at school, one of my friends was in their class, and began
recording and playing when they were v. young - if you listen to PATIO,
their first album, you can sort of hear Euros's voice breaking! Also, the
violinist, Megan is Euros's sister.
Other than that, they have two other albums out:- TATAY and BWYD(Food)
TIME, and quite a few singles, on Anskt which are all superb. They have
done a couple of John Peel sessions, and one Mark Radcliffe, and are
about to go on tour supporting The Manic Street Preachers. Their
influences are pretty wide, but largely the Beach Boys, Capt. Beefheart,
The Incredible String Band, The Fall and other cool stuff.
One other piece of useless, but upsetting info, is that John, the
guitarist and trombone player has shaved his amazing privet-hedge beard
off, and now looks about ten years younger!
Anyway, hope that enlightens you a little bit
John.

They're from Wales, started out singing almost totally in their

superb albums of bedroom psychedelic pop with lashings of childlike

(in my opinion) losing their pop sensibility somewhat and getting a bit
self-indulgent with dodgy facial hair. They've got some attention from
the NME (two Singles Of The Week), and are played often by Mark
