Anyone has the lirics of the song called "Song for the Mira" ?.

It is an old folk song, from Nova Scotia, and my guess is, that
no one knows who wrote this song.
And it is recorded by many singers and also comes in
instrumental recording.
And Anne Murray is one of the singers that recorded this song,
namely because Anne Murray was born in Nova Scotia.

I just want to mention that the following words is repeated
many times in that song I am looking for.

" I am going to be with you " en so on.

I dont remember the rest of it.

If some one can find the lyrics, please email to me :

Thank you
rs

"Song for the Mira" was written by Allister MacGillivray and has a
copyright date of 1979. Not that old as Nova Scotian folk songs go.

The song is by Alistair McGillivray, 1975. It can be found in "The Anne
Murray Collection" songbook.

Arnold,

I have received your note and thanks very much.
I really like that song.
I have been trying to find the CD / tape for that song (ottawa), for 6
months,
still can not find it, but again, I have not given 100 % full effort.

Have you ever heard the story of a guy , who is so obsessed with Anne
Murray .
For the third time he was caught by the police in the neighbourhood
where Anne Murray
lives. I dont remember, was it in Toronto or in Nova Scotia.
And then, he asked the police for a quarter to make a phone call.
It is assumed, that he is going to call a lawyer. Wrong, he called
Anne Murray again.
The behaviour is what you called 'stalking' , but this guy is not a
violent type.
He really believes that Anne Murray loves him and that Anne Murray
needs him.
That is why, he always hangs around where Anne Murray lives.
I dont know what happens to this guy at the present time.

Well, so much for the story, I have to find this CD or tape, because
I dont remember the complete tune of the song.
The part that I remember is : ' I am going to be with them '
and these words are repeated a few times at the end.
Once I know the complete song, then I can play and sing it with a
guitar.
And I believe, I can do a good job.

Again , thanks and very gratefull for the lyrics,
rs

Concerning the person who is obcessed with Anne Murray and hangs around
her neighborhood. Although it was said he is considered harmless, keep in
mind the guy who was "in love" with one of the Lennon Sisters sometime
ago. He ended up killing their father because the father got in the way
of "their love."

I am sure someone else has already responded but I am only up to message
200 out of 390. The recent Song of the Mira is written by Alister
McGilveray (sp?) of Cape Breton...it made its debut in the mid-70's I
think and spread rapidly. I have always wondered if it came from
fragments of an earlier song...I have heard Cape Bretoners sing "Down on
the Mira in Old Margaree...the fish they are jumping for you and for me.."

If you don't have the lyrics and want them just write to me..and if it
bounces write to ma...@fish.washington.edu...

Here are the lyrics, the liner notes on her album say "Trad.", you might
also find a version in DIGITRAD but I have not checked...

I also love this song, and if anyone has the chords to it, I'd be
eternally greateful...

Out on the Mira

Out on the Mira, on warm afternoons,
Old men go fishin' with black line and spoons,
And if they catch nothin', they never complain
I wish I was with them again.

As boys in their boats, call to girls on the shore
Teasing the ones that they dealy adore
And into the evening, the courtin' begins,
I wish was with them again.

(Chorus)
Can you imagine a piece of the universe,
More fit for Princes and Kings?
I'll trade you ten of your cities for Marion Bridge
And the pleasures it brings.

Out on the Mira, on soft summer nights
Bonfires blaze to the children's delight
They dance round the flames
Singing songs with their friends
And I wish I was with them again

(Chorus again)

Now I'll conclude with the wish you go well
Sweet be your dreams and your happiness swell
I'll leave you here, fore my journey begins
I'm going to be with them
Going to be with them
I'm going to be with them again

(Chorus)
