My list would probably be Steeleye Span/Martin Carthy/Maddy Prior/Ewan
McColl as I haven't heard much of the others you mention.

I do, however, think it's a pity there isn't enough Brit-related stuff
on this newsgroup...

Martin Carthy & getting no replies. Probably...) Bygrave

Sounds like my sort of list!!

I didn't see your query Ruth, and I have my message reader scan
for Carthy, Steeleye, etc.... perhaps it just hasn't made it
here yet.

I had the great pleasure of seeing Waterson:Carthy only a couple
of weeks ago, at Mariposa in Toronto - and even managed to say
hello/get autographs signed between their appearances on the
various stages. It was the second time I've met Martin, though
as the previous time was some twenty years ago, he didn't
remember ;-))). Can't wait till the next time!

What was your query?

Cheers
Tom

Maybe not as much, but Nicely Out of Tune is a great album, but I can pass on
Fog On The Tyne. The 1960's recordings of Fairport are musts for the most part;
and many Richard & Linda Thompson lp's afterwards. The Span albums from
Salt to Hat have to be in my collection, plus Lovely On The Water from
some good collection, but since I am not a completist, that's enough. You
might want to check out The Albion Band if you like the last two groups,
and not to forget early efforts. The Oyster Band also embraces a lot of
the best elements of all of the above. Now when do we get Liberty Hall
(for Six Gray Men) on CD?

I'm not too crazy about Span or lindisfarne, but I love some of the
Fairport albums, esp. unhalfbricking. Also most of the Richard & Linda
Thompson albums, and don't forget Nick Drake (most people have,
unfortunately). Tim Buckley is great too - has anyone else heard the
album of british tv & radio cuts - it is magnificent, although too
short.

And don't forget the best singer in the whole bunch, Sandy Denny. Pity
she's gone.

Aaaaargh - most lethargic singer of the bunch.

Lethargic?? Have you heard her "Tam Lin"? It's the first folk rock song
I ever heard and it still blows everything else out of the water.

Yes I have heard Tam-Lin. Surprisingly enough, it is the one song that she
sings that I think she is absolutely perfect for. Which is to say that I
enjoy her version of that song very much, even though I don't particularly
care for her style all that much.
