Pop singer Ed Ames had out a version on RCA (remember the Ames Brothers?),
and Coven and another group I can't seem to recall.

The first recording was by a group named "The Original Cast"

re One Tin Soldier-
why does it stick in my mind that it was sung by Buffy Sainte-Marie?
Other than that I'm wrong and stubborn....

Wrong soldier! You're confusing it with Buffy's "Universal Soldier," a
much better song, IMHO.

This song was written and performed by Coven, one of the first
"satanic" rock bands. I use to have their album, "Witchcraft"
which contained a 15-minute satanic mass on side 2.
I remember that one of the musicians was O.Osborne which I always
assumed was Ozzy Osborne, of Black Sabbath infamy. I have heard,
however, that the Osborne of Coven is not Ozzy. I dunno. I don't care.

"One TIn Soldier" was recorded by a group known as Coven. I don't know who
was in Coven, who probably had their only hit with this song. I wish I
knew who the songwriter was,as it remains a powerful song to this day.
