This song was written and performed by John Denver, also performed by
Peter, Paul & Mary--sung by Mary. Did any other groups do it too? I
remember a different sound for this song.
Thanks,
Lew Barton
He wasn't a "group" but Bobby Darin did it on one of his lps....can't
remember the name of the album off hand.

While John Denver was a member of the Mitchell Trio (Chad Mitchell
Trio after Chad left), they recorded a very nice version of the tune.
It's basically just John singing it, but it's a group.

Stop by and sit a spell.
A little trivia about this song......In Feb. of 1997, I met the
namesake for this song. When John and her were dating, she was Bobbie
Wargo. I met her at a John Denver concert in Birmingham, Ala. She was
a very personable lady. She and John met when he was singing at a club
in Scottsdale, Az where Bobbie lived. She was still in high school if I
remember correctly. John wrote the song during this time. She said
that she learned about that other girl named Annie from a mutual
friend. I saw her again in late July at another JD concert at
Wolftrap.
