Several years ago I heard a tape by a Mechanical Engineer from New Jersey
who played on a few radio shows and in clubs in the area. He was known
especially for his "recitations" including "The Ballad of the Sandman"
and "The Ballad of Jake and 10 Ton Molly."

Has anyone heard of Mr. Agranoff and is he still performing?

Curiously,
Rob

He ran one of the campfire sings at the Philly Folk Festival last weekend.
As far as I know, he's still living somewhere in New Jersey. You
could probably obtain his address from the Phila. Folk Song Society,
7113 Emlen St., Phila. PA 19119, (215) 247 1300. Or email me, if
you like, and I'll try to get it for you.

Good Luck!

Mike's still quite active in the east coast folk scene. I spotted him at the
Philly Folk Fest a week ago, and he'll be performing at the Golden Link Folk
Fest here in Rochester this coming weekend.

Someone gave me a tape of him at a live performance. I also saw his
name on last year's Philly Folk Festival poster.

Mike's a performer in the great traditions of the Limelighters and
such, with a wonderful mix of material, all of it truly entertaining.
He does a bit which is a modern Joisey version of "George Washington
Crosses the Delaware" which is nothing short of brilliant.

Mike Agranoff is a New Jersey-based folksinger who is, I believe, still
performing in the area. I met him years and years ago when we were both in
the Folk Music Society of Northern New Jersey. He was just about the most
annoying human being I'd ever met.

Mike is associated with the Folk Project, a folk club also in northern NJ.
He has his unique way as most of us do. He has mellowed with age altho
some may disagree. He plays a wicked good guitar when he's on, which he
often is. His recitations, as already mentioned, are legend. He's well
worth seeing and he may be in your area real soon now! He'll be at the
Folk Project's Minstral Show Coffee House in Basking Ridge (Bernardsville?)
on the Friday after turkey day. But, then again, so will I.
