I currently have on loan Sam Henry's "Songs of the People" from the Shropshire County Library in England.

As I have to return it in 3 weeks, does anyone know if this book can be purchased in Australia?

Contact Lani Herrmann (la...@info.berkeley.edu) - she has copies for
sale of the recent edition that she helped edit.

Just to deconfuse this matter before it goes much further.
There are two books sort of named Sam Henry's Songs of the People.

The first was indeed edited by John Moulden at the address given in
Antrim, and it was published in 1979 by Blackstaff Press in Northern
Ireland. This edition contains 100 songs drawn from the original
collection and quite a lot of scholarly apparatus, footnotes and all.
Its proper title is _Songs of the People: Selections from the Sam
Henry Collection, Part 1_ (Belfast: Blackstaff Press, 1979). (For
completion fanatics: that's all there is, no more parts.)

The second is _Sam Henry's 'Songs of the People,'_ edited by Gale
Huntington and Lani Herrmann (Athens, GA: Univ. of Georgia Press,
1990). I am, of course, much more familiar with this one, being as the
second editor is a very close relative. 632 pages, nearly 700 items,
plus all the scholarly baggage one might hope for. (I've posted
bibliographic details from the book for a couple of songs on the Irish
and Ballad lists recently.) Not incidentally, John Moulden (who had
begun his work on Sam Henry, a Northern Irish civil servant as well as
collector, independently of Gale Huntington) was a big help to us in
preparing the 'complete' 'American' edition, and in particular helped
us with the index of Ulster place names.

John Moulden is currently doing research on Ulster songs and history,
and has published a bunch of booklets, including two with songs and
music in them. "Thousands Are Sailing" is the second of them, and is
rich in background and additional sources.
