Does anyone know what's up with the folk music website, Digital
Traditions and Mudcat Cafe? For some days now I have tried to access the
site, with no luck.

http://www.mudcat.org/threads.cfm

On vacation? Moved? Shut down? Is there any alternative? They had such a
huge collection of lyrics.

The dt is something hosted by Mudcat. Other copies of it exist. There is a
downloadable version available from Mudcat and there is the Yet Another
digital Tradition at:

Thanks. It's one of those things -- now that I've posted the question,
the original site starts working for me again!

I appreciate learning of the mirror site. It has a strange search
engine, though, in my opinion. I put in "hat" and it gave me every song
with "what" and "that"...

Donna, I just tried the link and it works OK with me, so I hope it
does for you too now!

I have haunted the Mudcat for some years now. It is a volunteer
effort, and a huge one. At a guess, it crashes every year or so. It
always comes back. Remember Joe Offer in your prayers.

Yes, I do find the searching is much better with the Mudcat version - I
really do like the searches they have put together. Mudcat also has
advantages in that there are songs in the threads that are not in the dt
database and the search can find them. Also that with a very busy forum, if
you can't find what you are looking for, you can ask and often get a quick
reply.

On the other hand this other site has an advantage in that many of the tunes
are available in a variety of formats and you can even download all the
tunes in a number of formats in one go. That together with its superiour
uptime record make the site very worthwhile IMO.

joe offer is an evil bigot who defends the child abusing boy scouts and catholic church with every possible excuse, and censors and bans anyone from mudcat who is on the left. he's a clinton, forever war demicrat.

Fancy meeting myself here after all these years! A particularly
grotesque abuse of Google Groups, I dare say.
