On KMPX many years ago, or was it KSAN? They played a song written by
Dylan that seemed out of character for him. I think it was sung by Sandy
Denney but I'm not sure. I've never been able to find a recording of it
though I found sheet music in a Dylan song book. Anybody have any info?

Marley's Ghost recorded it on "Haunting Melodies." On the same album is
another Dylan song, "Bob Dylan's Dream," along with several other good tunes.

Dylan's very fine rendition of this was finally released on "Biograph" in the
mid 80s. The version of this that was familiar to me before was from the Byrds,
in their heyday.

Ihave this song on an abscure album from the late 60's (I think) by Jim &
Jean. The name of the album is Changes; it was put out by Verve (MGM). It
has a blurb by Phil Oches and Jim Glover and Al Kooper among others doing
backup. I've never heard of this duo anywhere else but its a great disc.

I don't know if it's on anything else, but I just got "Biograph" for
Christmas, and it's on there...actually, there are a whole bunch of songs on
there that I haven't heard before. I got the tapes, and there were three of
them, so it's at least a 2 cd set....it comes with a book about Dylan's life
too, with lots of pictures that I never saw before too, like one's of his
first wife for instance...Have fun,
Tim

I had a look at the notes to "Biograph". The recording was made in
1963, but unreleased until "Biograph". Dylan was inspired to write
it after hearing a 78rpm recording of an old Scottish pipe tune at
Joan Baez' house. He doesn't remember what the tune was, but he was
trying to reflect the feeling of it in his song.

There is a beautifull rendition of Dylan's "Lay down your weary tune" on
Jim & Jean's "Changes" album. Its an old out of print album on the
Verve/Folkways label. Mike
