(Cross-posted to rec.music.misc and rec.music.folk -- who knows how
to classify Leo Kottke?)

Here's a potential warning to holders of tickets to upcoming
Leo Kottke performances and a plea for further information from
anyone who's got it.

Leo Kottke was scheduled to perform on Sat., Nov. 18 in New Haven
on a double bill with Spyrogyra. On arriving at the concert, we
were told that Leo would not be performing that night. The ticket
agent -- who bravely bore my howls of anguish and refunded everything
but the Ticketron service charge on the tickets -- said that he
had been told that Leo had been injured the previous day. No further
information.

Unhappy as I am that his concert was cancelled, I'd be unhappier still
if anything serious has happened to Leo K. For those who don't know
him, Leo Kottke is a remarkable acoustic (6- and 12- string) guitarist
whose style blends folk, bluegrass, blues, country, and just about
everything else. His concerts are terrific musically; they're also
hysterically funny, since Leo has an acute dry wit and a talent for
storytelling.

Does anyone know what happened to Leo?

This is sheer speculation, but:

It's possible that he suffered another attack of tendonitis. He said
in a Guitar Player interview a while ago that he'd been getting some
strange "warm" feelings in his arm, and then one day he discovered he
couldn't play at all. It took him a while to recover. I don't know
when this happened to him, but it was quite a while back.

I'm glad to hear that someone else has heard of Leo!
I'm sorry, however, to hear of his affliction.

I first heard/saw him on PBS in a special called "At Home w/Leo Kottke"
or something (probably way off). I'd never heard anything like him, so
I went out, and being the type to explore an artist's earliest work,
bought 'Guitar Music'.

Yow!

I was thinking about buying a newer CD, but I don't know which to try
next.

Help...

More speculation, but that's doubtful. His bout with tendonitis was in
the late seventies and early eighties, and was a result of playing in an
armchair, hunched up over (around) his guitar and drooling on it. Basically,
given his technique, he was begging for tendonitis. Since then, he has
completely relearned his technique, to eliminate the possibility of getting
again.

So I'm still mighty worried. What happened to Leo? somebody's got to know!
