Sometime back I promised a Malicorne discography. The handy pigeonhole
for Malicorne is "the French Steeleye Span", but that doesn't fully
capture the early-music aspect of their sound. Gabriel Yacoub was the
leader of the band, and his first wife Marie was the female voice.

Three of the first four albums are titled "Malicorne", so I've described
the covers to try to distinguish among them.

All releases are on French labels unless otherwise noted.

1. MALICORNE. Hexagone 883002, 1974.
Cover: Beige, photo of band.
I refer to this as "Malicorne i"
2. MALICORNE. Hexagone 883004, 1975.
Cover: Yellow-green, painting of a treehouse.
I refer to this as "Malicorne ii"
3. ALMANACH. Hexagone 883007, 1976?
A song cycle on the months of the year.
4. MALICORNE. Hexagone 883015, 1977?
Cover: Old man, boy, deep blue night sky.
I refer to this as "Malicorne iv"

5. QUINTESSENCE. Hexagone 883018, 1977?
Anthology, reportedly with one previously-unreleased track.

6. L'EXTRAORDINAIRE TOUR DE FRANCE D'ADELARD ROUSSEAU. Elektra 52 272, 1978.
7. EN PUBLIC. Ballon Noir BAL 13010, 1978.
May also be known as LIVE IN MONTREAL.
8. LE BESTIAIRE. Elektra 52 271, 1979?
9. BALANCOIRE EN FEU. Elektra 52280, 1981.
10. LES CATHEDRALES DE L'INDUSTRIE. Celluloid CEL 6792, 1986?
Yacoub says this was originally intended as a solo album, but the
record label wanted a Malicorne album so it would sell better.
This album confounds the usual low expectations for reunion albums;
it's one of the best they recorded. It is also *exceptionally*
difficult to find.

11: LEGENDE: DEUXIEME EPOQUE. Hannibal HNCD 1360 in the US, 1989.
Anthology drawn from items 6-10, with two live outtakes from the
EN PUBLIC album.

1-4 have been issued on CD in France, and these discs have been offered by
Roots & Rhythm (formerly Down Home Music Mailorder) in El Cerrito.
I'm pretty certain that 6-11 are out of print.
-----

Gabriel Yacoub solo albums. Additions welcome, I'm pretty sure this is
not complete.

1. TRAD. ARR. Green Linnet SIF 3038 in the US. 1978.
2. ELEMENTARY LEVEL OF FAITH. Shanachie 96003 in the US. Early 1980s.
3. BEL. Keltia Musique KMCD 15, 1990.
