Excuse my possible ignorance, but I've played the Wedding Song often, and
using a twelve-string in STANDARD tuning (capo wherever you need to) and
thought I was duplicating the record. Played in the nominal key of G.
E-mail if you'd like me to elaborate... otherwise, good luck.

Anyone know the alternate guitar tuning Stookey uses for this? I can't
quite figure it out from the recording and I'm supposed to play this in a
wedding. Please help! I know it's capo-2 and I think the bass string is
tuned down to B, but the rest is a mystery.

Thanks!

Well, I'm not 100% sure, but from watching the 25th anniversary tape, I
think he tunes the 12 string down 5 half steps and then places the capo
on 2. The recordings I've heard sound in E, and this would account for
it as it's played standard tuning/fingered G. Tuning the 12 string down
this low (ala Gordon Bok, for instance) gives it a cool sound. I've found
that heavier strings are needed to make it all sound right and stay in tune
in this tuning, however. 'Course I could be wrong about all of this.

I believe it's in open D, DADF#AD, capo 2.

THE WEDDING SONG is played in E..which is the key the sheet music is in.
Tune the bass string of your guitar down to D and then capo on the second
fret. This will make all the guitar stuff woprk out like the records.

Goo Luck!

The sheet music is in E and this seems to match the record. Tune the bass
tring down to D and then capo on the 2nd fret. If you have a lower voice,
just drop the bass string to D and stay there. The dropped D tuning gives
the exact chord voices on the recording.

When you listen to the open strings being played, it's highly unlikely that it's played in standard tuning. A bit of research and I found that all the strings are tuned down by a major 3rd.

Therefore: C F Bb Eb G C
