Hello rec.music.folk folks, from a regular on rec.music.dylan, where we
have recently been discussing Bobby's performance (with guest Roger McGuinn)
of a song which sources attribute to Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup, entitled
"Rock Me, Mama." The song as it has come down to us Dylan-nuts is a very
rough rehearsal version, an outtake from the sessions for Dylan's soundtrack
to "Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid." But due to the nature of the recording,
the lyrics, particularly of the verses, are almost totally inaudible. Does
anyone here possibly have another recording of the tune from which they
could transcribe? Please, please, e-mail me privately to let me know, as
I am only an occasional reader of this group. Or, if you would like to
come on over to r.m.dylan and post results there, we would be most grateful.
Oh, in case it rings a bell, the chorus goes

"Rock me mama, like the wind and the rain,
Rock me mama like a southbound train,
Heyyyy, mama rock me...
Rock me mama like a wagon wheel,
Rock me mama any way ya feel,
Heyyyy, mama rock me."

Thanks for your time and attention...

Peace,
Jeff

Just yeasterday I was talking to a friend about Crudup. I checked
with CDWorld and CDnow & was surprised to find he has 10 or 12 CDs
out. One or the other of those online stores shows track listings.

Jeff, do you still need the lyrics to "Rock Me, Mama?" If you do,
e-mail me at ch...@ibm.net

I have Crudup's recording of "Rock Me, Mama" on the Fire label from the
early 1960s and would be happy to transcribe for you.
