News from the Adult Learning Project Scots Music Group concerning classes,
courses, ceilidhs etc for the forthcoming term (enrolment night 20th Sept).
This note may be of particular interest to people of Scots ancestry who
wonder why I go on about the overemphasis on pipe bands in other countries -
this list shows what Scots of today are doing musically. Gaelic singing
classes are under consideration, but it's too late to organise these
for the next term.

This is just the music section. ALP also offers classes in languages (Scots
and Gaelic), History, Photography, Land, Womens studies, Cultures, etc
ALP is partly funded by Lothian Region community education and the Scottish
Arts Council. ALP encourages its students to go to the pub and play in
sessions after the classes (Mondays - The West End Hotel, Wednesday's -
Digger's, Thursday's - The West End Hotel)

Term times are 26th Sep - 10th Dec (10 classes) with a
break 17th Oct to 22nd Oct. Evening classes are 7pm - 9pm

New classes this year:
Improving beginners fiddle (probably about 1 years experience)
Beginning to play for dancing (how to string tunes together to
fit well known dances)
West Edinburgh Folk Group (last years performance workshop
now has a name and is taking bookings!!)
Cape Breton Step Dancing (now it's own class rather than part of
the Scots dance class)

Ceilidhs:
These events help to raise money for ALP
