Could someone please email me the lyrics to Joni Mitchell's
"Urge for Going"? I'd appreciate it very much!

Thanks.

Hope you've heard Tom Rush's killer version of this song. Here goes:

When I woke
today and found the frost perched on the town
It hovered in a foreign sky and gobbled summer down
When the sun turns traitor cold
And shivering trees are standing naked in a row
I get the urge for going and I never seem to go
CH:
And I get the urge for going when the meadow grass is turning brown
Summertime is falling down, winter's closing in

And I had a girl in summertime with summer colored skin
Not another man in town my darlings heart could win
But when the leaves fell trembling down
And bully winds did rub their faces in the snow
She got the urge for going and I had to let her go

CH:

The warriors of winter, give a cold triumphant shout
All that stays is dying, all that lives is getting out
See the geese in chevron flight
Flapping and a-racing on before the snow
They've got the urge for going, they've got the wings to fly

CH:

So I'll ply the fire with kindling, pull the blanket to ny chin
I'll lock the vagrant winter out and bolt my wandering in
I'd like to call back summertime
nd have her stay for just another month or so
She got the urge for going , I guess she'll have to go

LAST CHORUS:

And she gets the urge for going when the meadow grass is turning brown
All her empires are falling down and winters closing in

I'm sorry to criticize you, but Urge For Going was MOST DEFINITELY
written by Joni Mitchell. Tom Rush was among the first to record the
song, and Joni's own recording of the song is not generally available.

weeeeelllllll.... actually, The song *was* written by Joni and was one of
the songs that she became known for in songwriters circles before she
recorded... Tom Rush had a hit with it and i believe it was recorded by
Dave Van Ronk but i'm not sure..
Joni Mitchell's version is unfortunately only available as the B-side of
the 7" single
"You Turn Me On, I'm A Radio" presumably it will be released in the Joni
box set...
who knows when.... It's beautiful version....

No...I don't think he can put his name on it, but he can sure get paid
every time someone performs it! Song writers sell their tunes all the
time. I think Michael Jackson owns all the Lennon/MacCartney tunes if
I'm not mistaken. Phil Spector was notorius for putting his name on
everything that came out of his recording studio.

This is how I have performed it since 1972. I picked it up from Tom
Rush's
version and I think it is pretty close to his recording.
I have the sheet music somewhere, which should be the way Joni wrote it.
I'll look for it...I also have Joni's version on 45, so I'll check that
too.

gin enters the equation.
