Greetings,
I hope someone here can help me in my search. I am looking for the name of the
artist who sang a song I believe was titled "wall flower." I remember the song
from the early / mid 70's however, the original might be much older than that.
A few searches I've done have been unsuccesful. Thanks a million !

Mikey

Wall flower, wall flower...won't you dance with me
I'm sad & lonely too ooo

P.S. Artist was a male vocalist. Also, John Sebastion / Lovin Spoonful's
"darlin be home soon" is an excellent choice as one of top ten all time
best...thanks again.

When I did a google search for wallflower + "won't you dance with me" I came up
with a lot of hits that credit Bob Dylan with the song. (Although it's a new
one to me.)

"Wallflower" was written by Bob Dylan. You can find a recording of it
on one of my favorite CD's. It is on Buddy annd Julie Miller's CD
titled "Buddy and Julie Miller" which was released in 2001 on the
HIGHTONE label. The complete lyrics are on their liner notes. It is
available from most chain record stores and Amazon, etc. Although the
song was familiar to me even before I heard their version of it, I
cannot remember who previously recorded it and I am not aware of any
Dylan bootlegs or releases that it is on. Maybe it is in one of
Dylan's songbooks - sounds to me like a song he would have written in
the 70's.

The first recording of the "Wallflower" by Dylan was by Doug Sahm circa
early 70s, I think.

Also David Bromberg recorded it. Again, Bob Dylan wrote it.

Which brings to mind a question: What, if any, connection may be made
between this song and the name of Bob Dylan's son Jacob's group, The
Wallflowers? How did this group get its name?

Back in October 2000, the whole band was involved in an AOL chat with fans and the
question came up. One of the band members (not Jakob) said it was difficult for
five guys to agree on one name . . . they thought that one was the best and went
for it. Jakob made some quip about considering REM but they realised it was already
in use!

When I posted earlier about the first recording of Bob's Wallflower, I meant to
mention that the first time I heard the song I immediately thought of Leadbelly's
Black Girl, which Dylan covered and recorded as In The Pines as early as 1961.

Ray.

It was written by Bob Dylan, who also recorded it. It is on Bob Dylan - the
bootleg series volume 2 (song 16)
