Ask and you'll find, a calm, peaceful place
A clear running stream and a forest of pine
A morning for dreams and an evening for wine
Far from ashfields and brine
Come when the autumn blows through my land
And let its flame feel warm in your hand
Stay by my side while the winter comes on
You may leave in the spring when the memories are gone
Of the ashfields and brine
Love of a summer, carefree and warm
Heed now the calm of the gathering storm
Barren and bitter my last tears will be
From the smoke of the fire and the spray of the sea
Leaving ashfields and brine
Ashfields and brine will grow flowers rare
Thyme and sweet columbine, will brighten the air
And all of the sorrows and tears I have known
Will be cinders and sea, where a blossom has grown
Far from ashfields and brine

"Ashfields and Brine," lyrics and music by Archie Fisher, is on the album
SUNSETS I'VE GALLOPED INTO..." I have no idea of the album's current
availability as I have an LP released in 1988. It's on the Snowgoose Label
(Garnet Rogers' label), so you could contact "Mama" Rogers at: Valerie
Enterprises, Woodburn Road, R.R.#1, Hannon, Ontario, Canada L0R 1P0.
Archie's liner notes on the song: "A new industrial estate now covers the
old Invervess landfill on the Moray Firth which, because of garden waste,
used to support a myriad of herbs and flowers despite the barren
surroundings of cinders and sea."
Lyrics:
Maybe ashfields and brine will grow flowers rare
Thyme and sweet columbine will brighten the air
And all of the sorrows and tears you have known
Will be cinders and sea where blossoms have grown
Far from ashfields and brine.
Turn 'til the north wind's cold in your face
Ask and you'll find a calm, peaceful place.
A clear running stream and a forest of pine
A morning for dreams and an evening for wine
Far from ashfields and brine.
Come when the autumn burns through my land
And let its flame feel warm in your hand

You'll leave in the spring when the memories are gone
Of the ashfields and brine.

Leaving ashfields and brine.
Ashfields and brine will grow flowers rare

And all of the sorrows and tears I have known
Will be cinders and sea where a blossom has grown
Far from ashfields and brine
Enjoy!
