I've been amazed at the kind of information that can be dredged up
from this newsgroup.......so I'm going to ask a far-fetched question.

Almost exactly a year ago I was driving on very icy roads and listening
to All Things Considered. It was the Sunday after last Thanksgiving,
so that would make it November 28, 1993, I guess. The program's featured
musician was someone whose name was something like "Susan Warner." Given
that it was very dark and my hands were both locked to the wheel, I wasn't
able to write down the name. She had a wonderful voice, tunes, and lyrics
and I've been looking for a recording ever since. The problem is that
no one's been able to find her name in any of the various data bases used
by music stores. So, either 1) she doesn't have a recording out yet (but
I could have sworn they said she did), or 2) I remembered her name wrong.
The only other information I remember is that she was doing something
else before she starting singing and writing songs......sort of came
around to it....possibly with the help of her brother(?), who is also
a folk musician. I think they're both based on the East coast.

Does this ring any bells in anyone's head??? Thanks in advance!

As others have said it was "Susan Werner".

I have *that* NPR profile from All Things Considered. You can purchase
a copy (audio tape) directly from NPR. (This is how I got it.)

Well I'm a *big fan* of Susan. I'll try to refrain from
my over-zelous "Susan Gihad" and just say she is a great
singer/songwriter who is currently based in Philly. She grew up
on a farm in Iowa, attended U. Iowa, and has a classically trained
voice. Her road to becoming an Opera singer had a slight detour
and she now is "wow"ing the east-coast acoustic clubs with
her incredible voice, guitar, and piano. She has 2 albums
on an indy label and had recently signed with Private Music.
She is currently recording a new album in NYC.

Susan and other rising stars are often the center of attention/discussion
on Alan Rowoth's electronic folk music mailing list. You should
consider joining. The news usually hits there much faster than here.

There is also a brief biography of Susan and other artists in the
WWW folk book home page (http://www.cgrg.ohio-state.edu/folkbook/)

Go see her if you have a chance. You will not be disappointed!

This would be her brother David Werner. He was/is a lawyer in DC.
He is currently singing and doing comedy with the Capitol Steps,
a DC-based group that focuses on political satire. Last year,
Susan and David did a show together in DC. David did stand-up
comedy and Susan followed with her music!

Here is the latest mailing from Susan. Unfortunately most dates
are over but you can write to be added to her mailing list.
