The following will probably only be of interest to fans of Sandy
Denny and/or The Strawbs and/or Fairport Convention. Dismal
cultural heathens who have no such interests should hit the 'n' key
now.

Colm Mulcahy's large info file on Fairport Convention (thanks Colm
for my recent copy of this file) gives rumours that the
long-deleted album "All Our Own Work" by Sandy Denny and the
Strawbs may be released on CD. This has now happened, at least in
the UK, althought I will qualify this statement. The CD is out on
the Hannibal label with number HNCD 1361.

Colm's file gives the following details for "All Our Own Work":

ALL OUR OWN WORK (r. Aug 1967, Hallmark/Pickwick SHN 813, 1973)

On My Way (D. Cousins)
Who Knows Where The Time Goes (S. Denny)
Tell Me What You See In Me (D. Cousins)
Always On My Mind (T. Hooper)
Stay Awhile (D. Cousins)
Wild Strawberries (Cousins/Hooper)
All I Need Is You (D. Cousins)
How Everyone But Sam Was A Hypocrite (D. Cousins)
Sail Away To The Sea (D. Cousins)
Sweetling (T. Hooper)
Nothing Else To Do (D. Cousins)
And You Need Me (D. Cousins)

The new CD is simply given the eponymous title "Sandy Denny and the
Strawbs" (how original can you get ?) and similar details to the
above are:

SANDY DENNY AND THE STRAWBS (Hannibal HNBL 1361, 1991)

Nothing Else Will Do (D. Cousins)
Who Knows Where The Time Goes (S. Denny)
How Everyone But Sam Was A Hypocrite (D. Cousins)
Sail Away To The Sea (D. Cousins)
All I Need Is You (D. Cousins)
Poor Jimmy Wilson (D. Cousins)
And You Need Me (D. Cousins)
Tell Me What You See In Me (D. Cousins)
I've Been My Own Worst Friend (D. Cousins)
On My Way (D. Cousins)
Two Weeks Last Summer (D. Cousins)
Always On My Mind (T. Hooper)
Stay Awhile With Me (D. Cousins)

Obvious changes are the re-ordering of the tracks and the omission
of the tracks "Wild Strawberries" and "Sweetling". The tracks
"Poor Jimmy Wilson", "I've Been My Own Worst Friend" and "Two Weeks
Last Summer" have been added.

("Poor Jimmy Wilson" appears on the eponymous album "Strawbs" [A & M
Records, AMLS 936, 1969] and a version of "Two Weeks Last Summer"
appears on the Sandy Denny boxed set "Who Knows Where The Time
Goes" [Island, SDSP 100, 1985] where it is credited as an
unreleased track by Fotheringay. These two versions of "Two Weeks
Last Summer" are definitely different.)

As rumoured, strings have been added to some of the tracks. These
are "Who Knows Where The Time Goes", "And You Need Me", All I Need
Is You" and "Stay Awhile With Me". There are other changes. A
sitar, played by Cy Nicklin, appears on "Tell Me What You See In
Me". The most obvious change is that Sandy now sings the lead
vocals on "Nothing Else Will Do" instead of Dave Cousins. Other
tracks may also be slightly different. I doubt that I'm going to
bother with a microscopic examination to detect all the slight
nuances and variations.

I suppose that it is now extremely unlikely that the original of
"All Our Own Work" will be re-released. Owners of the original LP
should take care to cherish and cosset it. They definitely
shouldn't leave it out in the sun to be warped into an exotic and
artistic flowerpot.
