Hi all,

I've been thinking about a scrap of a Christmas song I heard on the
radio a few years ago. It was written from Mary's point of view;
as I recall, it expressed her anxiety about not being able to find
a place to stay, and had the refrain "Oh, Joseph ... "

Sung by a female vocalist, obviously, and I remember thinking how
beautiful her voice was, as well as the song. I'd be very
grateful to anyone who could help me run this one down.

If the full line you're thinking of is "Oh, Joseph, can we stop and rest a
while", I'd bet that the song you heard was "Mary's Song" by Cornerstone, from
their album "Out Of The Valley" on the Folk Era label. The female vocalist in
question is Dee Specker, the song was written by Chris Stuart, who recently
left the band to move out to San Diego. Last I heard, Dee has taken over
leadership of the band, they're based in Ithaca, NY. I can put you in email
touch with both Chris and Dee if you'll drop me a private note.

Could also be "The Cherry Tree Carol" that is so wonderfully sung by Joan
Baez on her Vanguard album (currently on CD) Joan Baez, Vol 2.
