Folks,

I've been trying to decipher a couple lines from Doc Watson's Deep River
Blues, and the only lyric database entry I can find (OLGA) posts the last
verse only (with TAB). The second verse is especially unclear to me:

My old gal's a good old _____?________
She walks just like a water fowl(?)
When I got those deep river blues
Aint no one to care for me
______?__________ on a spree.

Sorry if these are really obvious to the rest of you--my hearing's
either gone bad or I had a rough recording to begin with!

thanks,

A.R. Glass

My gal Sal's a good ol' pal
Walks just like a water fowl
Cuz I've got them deep river blues
Ain't no one to cry for me
And the fish all go out on a spree
Cuz I've got them deep river blues

I got these words from Rise Up Singing.

And the fish all go out

It's in _Rise Up Singing_.

DEEP RIVER BLUES Doc Watson

DEEP RIVER BLUES Doc Watson

E7 Eb7 E7 A7
Let it rain, let it pour, let it rain a whole lot more, boys
E7 B7 - C7 - B7
I got them Deep River blues
E7 Eb7 E7 A7
Let the rain drive right on, let the waves sweep along 'cause
E7 B7 E7
I got them Deep River blues

My old gal's a good ol' pal
And she looks like a water fowl
If I get them Deep River blues
There ain't no one to cry for me
And the fish all go out on a spree
If I get them Deep River blues

(Instrumental)

Give me back my old boat
I'm gonna sail, if she'll float
When I get them Deep River blues
I'm going back to Mussel Shoals
Times getting better there I know
When I get them Deep River blues

If my boat sinks with me
I'll go down, don't you see, boys
I got them Deep River blues
Now I'm going to say good-bye
If I sink, just let me die
'Cause I got them Deep River blues

(Instrumental)

Let it rain, let it pour
Let it rain a whole lot more, boys
I got them Deep River blues
Let the rain drive right on
Let the waves sweep along 'cause
I got them Deep River blues

Big River Blues by the Delmore Bros. It's on an old County album. Not
sure which on, though.
