I believe that you'll be able to find Carlos Montoya on CD. In case you
aren't familiar with him, I think you'll be impressed with his ability.

Gosh, there are bunches of fine Spanish guitar players
that come to mind, but without limiting it by genre or
style, Andres Segovia comes immediately to mind. He
is out on at least 6 CDs that I have listened to, own or
have borrowed, and I bet a lot more than that. He's the
best that I know of, but if you can note type of music
or style of play that you're interested in, we can probably
list lots of others as well. Rene Herredia is a flamenco and
classical player who comes to mind mostly because I know him,
although he is not as well known;he has a couple of albums out
but don't know if he's on CD [Yo, Steve, do you know?]
Anyone else have names to share?
Jeff

Rene is working (pre-production) on a CD,
but his only general distribution recording (TMK) is _Alborada_Flamenca_,
which won the French GRAMMY equivalent. There are, however,
several private tapes available at his concerts.
Steve
I hesitated to answer the original post because I wasn't sure whether
Mr. Walberg was seeking music strictly from Spanish musicians. If
this is not the case, then by all means purchase Christopher
Parkening's "In a Spanish Style" CD. Absolutely breathtaking
performances of Tarrega, Sor, Albeniz, Villa-Lobos (I know, he was
Brazilian) Mudarra and a few lesser known composers. On the Angel
label. Not to be missed!

If you're interested in something more modern, Peter White has a new
recording out called "Reveillez-Vous" (French for Wake Up) that I find
very enjoyable. It's in the jazz section where I shop, but for no
particular reason. It's on CD and came out in mid 1990.
Peter White is the spanish guitarist that plays the intro licks on
Al Stewart's "On the Border" song; plus he's done lots of other stuff.

Some may question a few of these as being 'Spanish' style. The Gipsy Kings
are a French band but their music has a spanish flavor, IMHO. I don't
really want to start a flame war about this music being Spanish or not.
It's good guitar music, whatever you want to call it. (again IMHO)
Hope this helps

As the replies I've seen to this simple question have diverged
somewhat (don't they always on Usenet :-), I might as well chip in
on a tangential line. How about considering the work of Spanish
composers who wrote for the guitar ? I quite like the works of
Fernando Sor, the 19-th century guitar composer, although I believe
most of his work was composed while he was living outside Spain. I
think there are a few CDs available which concentrate on his work.
The one I have is by the Swedish guitar player Goran Sollscher
(that's G\"{o}ran S\"{o}llscher in LaTeX speak). It is on the
Deutsche Grammophon label, number 419 247-2. A superb DDD
recording which I play a lot; I can recommend it.
