Hi All,

Surprisingly there are still a number of seats left for Pete Morton's
house concert in Berkeley, CA on Saturday, March 18th at 8PM!

This is Pete's first trip to the Bay Area in almost 5 years, and he is
an amazing performer. Pete is one of England's finest singer/
songwriters and interpreters of traditional song. His material is
pretty well split between traditional ballads, his own material, and
other contemporary trad-style songs. He is probably best known as the
writer of "Another Train", a song performed by Eileen McGann, the
Poozies, Sally Barker, and others.

A text version of the flier follows. Further information (including
PDF & HTML versions of the flier) can also be obtained from:
http://www.sgreenberg.org/concerts.htm
Also, Pete will be appearing live on KALW radio (91.7 FM) at 4PM on
Saturday, March 18th ("Folk Music & Beyond" with Bob Campbell & JoAnn
Mar).

Seats are also still available for all other upcoming concerts: Colum
Sands (3/26), Eileen McGann with David K (4/16), Richard Grainger
(11/5), and Huw & Tony Williams (2/25/2001).

Thanks for your continued support!

PETE MORTON
English singer/songwriter
& interpreter of traditional song,
will be performing at a House Concert
in BERKELEY
on Saturday, March 18th
at 8PM

This incredible English singer/songwriter and dynamic interpreter of
traditional song makes an extraordinarily rare Bay Area
appearance--first time in 5 years! An awesome performer not to be
missed!

Pete Morton burst onto the British folk scene 10 years ago in a blaze
of outstanding reviews; Folk Roots described his first album as
"quite simply the best debut album by a singer/songwriter out of the
British folk scene." The remarkable thing about Pete is that he
graduated to folk music almost directly from the British New Wave
scene, bringing all of that energy with him. The depth and quality of
his songwriting is coupled by a remarkable energy and power in his
performance.

In the past 10 years Pete has had 5 solo albums (a 6th should be ready
for his tour!), 2 albums with Roger Wilson and Simon Edwards as "Urban
Folk", and a duo album with Jo Freya. His songwriting, although
contemporary and relevant, always exists alongside a wealth of
knowledge and respect for traditional song; a standout track on his
first album was his acclaimed reworking of the Scots border ballad Tam
Lin.

"Morton's lyrics can switch effortlessly back and forth across the
centuries and his tunes draw on the past without compromising their
modernity." --- Nick Beale, Folk Roots Magazine

"It is hard to believe that someone who is only 23 years old could
have as much wisdom as Pete Morton. Morton sings with passion and
insight, qualities sometimes lacking in contemporary American folk
music... Morton shows why the British folk music magazine "Folk Roots"
has called him "the most promising new artist in British folk music
today." --- Jim Musselman, SingOut! Magazine

"With songs to his credit like his earlier 'Last God of England,' he
has made such an impression on me that I ripped open his latest album
before dozens of others that had been waiting for weeks... Right from
the first line, I knew he had gotten to me again... This is Pete
Morton's strength. Putting it in words so clear, so cutting, and so
poignant, he pries your head open and inserts human feeling where the
shut-off valve used to be... And he tries to shake you loose and make
you react to the things you've been avoiding or ignoring. For this I
thank him." --- Cliff Furnald, Dirty Linen Magazine

Admission: $12 Donation. All proceeds go to the performer.

Pete performed here in late February and is in rare form and
definitely making up for his past several years absence. Fill those
seats!
