The boot CD "Urge For Going" consists of 4 songs from the oft-booted
Joni & James Taylor show from London 1970 (although listed on this CD as
London 1973), 2 songs from American TV from 1970, 3 tunes Joni did on a
Pete Seeger PBS TV show in 1969-70 (I think the series was Rainbow Quest),
and the rare b-side of "You Turn Me On, I'm a Radio", the song "Urge For
Going". The 3 tracks from Rainbow Quest are "Mr. Tambourine Man" which
Joni performs with a country band, an early version of "A Case Of You"
with some different lyrics, and "Both Sides Now" performed with Seeger
and on which he adds an extra verse that someone on this topic mentioned
awhile ago. This is the only CD where "Urge" the song is available, so
until Joel Bernatein and Joni get to work on that boxset and get it out
for all of us, you might want to have this for your collection.
Enjoy,
Wally

Is that Joel BernStein who is working on the Neil Young stuff as well as
being a photographer? I am looking for a tape of her performance at
Berkeley Community Theater, 3-11-72 in which her buddies, CN&Y along with
David Blue, Jackson Browne joined her inf the encore of The Circle Game.
I have boots fby Neil Young, 1 by J.Lennon, 1 by R.Thompson & David Byrne
& a bunch ofconcert tapes by Neil Young and quite a few by Nils
Lofgren-want to trade. Love to get Urge for Going done byf Joni. I'm a
Nash fan and am looking for tape of his 5-16-93 performance in Sonoma.

If "CD" is the operative word, then yes, it must be the only one, but on
the Lenny & Dom boot LP of one of Joni's 1969 concerts, there are two
studio recordings tacked on to the end of both sides: One is a rare
recording of an obscure JM song, "The Good Samaritan" (whose guitar riff
was to turn up later on "This Flight Tonight"); the other is the
aforementioned studio recording of "Urge for Going". I have the flipside 45
of this song as well, but unfortunately I don't have one of those little
"centre" thingamies (there must be a word for it) and so have to centre it
visually (great fun: just like when I was a kid and tried to play a record
with my fingernail!).
Wally: Why don't we (you?) start a Joni Mitchell conference in Alt.Music?
This is fun stuff.
