On the "O Brother Where Art Thou" CD, Dan plays the heavily syncopated
version of "Man of Constant Sorrow" in drop-D tuning with a capo on the
third fret. He uses key of D chord shapes, but the capo raises it to the
key of F. You get into drop-D tuning by lowering the pitch of the low E
string down to D.
A D
In constant sorrow all through his days...
D G
I am a man of constant sorrow
A D
I've seen trouble all of my days.

Chord shapes:
DADGBe (drop-D tuning)
D- 000232
G- 550033 (this is actually a G5 but it compliments the song well)
A- x02220
You can cover or approximate Dan's intro licks on strings 4, 5, and 6 using
open strings and notes on the 3rd fret with hammer-ons and pull-offs.
In the event that you've never played in drop-D before, I finger the G chord
using my ringer finger on the 5th fret of string 6, my pinky on the 5th fret
of string 5 and my index finger to cover both strings 2 and 1 at the 3rd
fret.
All the best,
Steve
