Folk/Roots Channel Launches with ExpressVu

OTTAWA (September 29, 1997) -- The Folk/Roots Channel, along with the
other digital audio channels that make up Galaxie - "The Continuous
Music Network," has taken flight aboard ExpressVu Inc.'s recent launch
of direct-to-home (DTH) satellite service across Canada.

Galaxie is a new national digital audio division of the Canadian
Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). The Folk/Roots Channel, programmed by
Rocon Communications, is part of Galaxie's 30-channel universe of
CD-quality, expertly-programmed digital music, delivered to consumers
24 hours a day without commercial interruption via Canadian Direct to
Home (DTH) satellite delivery systems and, eventually, cable TV
service.

ExpressVu customers are the first to receive Galaxie and The
Folk/Roots Channel. Residents of London, Ontario and Repentigny,
Quebec taking part in Bell Canada's TotalVision digital broadcast
pilot project will also be tuned to the new service (as will Telus
pilot project customers in Calgary and Edmonton). Galaxie will be
further deployed in the months to come as cable companies and wireless
cable ventures across Canada begin to offer digital services.

The audio network will be a revolutionary experience for music lovers
who feel underserved, if not abandoned, by the limitations and tight
formatting of today's commercial radio outlets.

The Folk/Roots Channel's eclectic yet accessible playlist features
everything from traditional North American, British and Celtic music,
to Bluegrass, Cajun, Texas-style, outlaw "roots" sounds and the
freshest, most innovative contemporary singer-songwriters. But with a
twist:

"I believe folk music connoisseurs are going to love The Folk/Roots
Channel," says Rocon Communications President Roch Parisien. "But we
want to accomplish more than just preaching to the converted. By
featuring a select group of the best new releases in higher rotation
at any given time, we hope to contribute towards breaking Folk/Roots
artists into mainstream acceptance and popularity."

Recent Canadian releases with selections in high rotation on
Folk/Roots at launch include Rick Fine's _Arcadia_, John Allan
Cameron's _Glencoe Station_, Hart Rouge's _Beaupre's Home_, Bruce
Cockburn's _The Charity of Night_, Mary Jane Lamond's _Suas e!_, Dayna
Manning's _Volume 1_, and Bob Snider's _Words and Pictures_.

Recent International releases with selections currently in high
rotation include Alison Krauss' _So Long So Wrong_, Sarah Hickman's
_Misfits_, Stuart Martz Band's _Threesome Reel_, Michael Jerling's _In
Another Life_, Brigid Boden's _Brigid Boden_, Slaid Cleave's _No Angel
Knows_, and Townes Van Zandt's _The Highway Kind_.

"On deck" for high rotation treatment in the coming weeks are new
releases from Stephen Fearing, James Keelaghan/Oscar Lopez, The
Paperboys, Tom Russell, J.P. Cormier, Kevin Burke's Open House, The
Arrogant Worms, Valdy, Cathy Fink/Marcy Marxer, Dar Williams, Guy
Clark, The Dead Reckoners, and selections from _The Alan Lomax
Collection_.

Even if not in the highest rotation list at any given time, artists
and labels need not fear about airplay opportunities: "All folk, all
the time," 24 hours a day, means that hundreds of songs and artists
are being aired every day.

Record companies and individual performers are invited to submit 2
copies of current and catalogue releases for airplay consideration on
the Folk/Roots Channel, care of:
