While a Triangle (NC) band, Connells are from Raleigh (the Boylan Heights
section).
TVT still exists...Connells are still on 'em (despite squabbles from time
to time)
the connells are one of my favorite bands. they're american -
from chapel hill, i think, certainly from north carolina, at
any rate. they used to be on a label called tvt, which i'm pretty
sure doesn't exist any more. not sure who they're with now, but
i think it's a major label. capitol? they're a consistently good
band, but very (imho) under-recognized in the u.s.
album releases and approximate dates:
darker days 1985 (tvt)
boylan heights 1987 (tvt-2540)
fun & games 1989 (?)
one simple word 1990 (tvt2580-4)
'stone cold yesterday' got a lot of air time on mtv.
ring 1994

trivia in case you paged down this far: when i was a senior at my
all-girls high school, the connells played at our 'brother school.'
mike connell, the guitarist, was wearing a brown t-shirt - i had
just applied there. he didn't go to brown, though, they all went to
unc.
Greetings and Well Met!
I have in my hand a copy of 'Fun and Games' a TVT Music 1989 (ASCAP)
production. In my tape cover is included an address. If ya really want
it, then I guess I can give it to you at no charge...I'm a nice guy at
times...<G>
The Connells
5 W. Hargett Str., Suite 407
Raliegh, N.C. 27601
Being an old address, you may want to check out Alternative Press
magazine (otherwise known as AP). Inside, they usually have a booklet
put out by Insomnia Records that is a source for hard to find Indies.
Hope this helps...

TVT is still around, and The Connells are still on it.
As for being under-recognised, that's certainly true -- so true, in fact,
that the band is seriously considering breaking up after their next album
if they don't get more recognition.

Their albums are pretty easy to find around here (Washington, DC), but I
can imagine that they're tough to find overseas.
I still haven't figured out what this is doing on the Celtic music
newsgroup though... The Connells may draw on a few Celtic influences,
but overall they sound more like REM/Guadalcanal Diary/Toad the Wet
Sprocket type college rock...
