Hello to all,

I'm searching for the lyrics to a Newfoundland folk song entitled The
Blooming Bright Star of Belle Isle.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

You can hear an interesting version of this on Bob Dylan's 1970 album
"Self Portrait" complete with strings and an interesting twist on the
melody.

You can get lyrics, music & chords in Edith's Fowke's benchmark book
Folksongs of Canada. Any branch of the Ottawa Public Library should have
it - or it will be at U oof Ottawa or Carleton U. It's a wonderful song,
one that I perform all the time. I can't understand why Bob Dylan used the
traditional words, but trashed the lovely melody!! Don't bother with his
version. The version in Edith's book is the one sung in Canada. Good luck,

You will also find it in the Penguin Book of Canadian Folk Songs, also
edited by Edith Fowke. Happy singing. Beverlie
