National Folk Alliance conference in DC this year .
It's kind of a trade show for musicians/song writers. About 1200 people from
around the country will be attending - and so will record companies and
dance/festival organizers . There will be three nights of free FREE dancing.
All Locals get in free to these dances. And we REALLY want you to come!
On Thursday, Feb 15, starting at 8:00 the BUZZARD ROCK BAYOU BOYS will play
alternating with the MANDO MAFIA. There will be old time Contra, swing, and a
Cajun / Zydeco set. Calling by Paul Rosen and Ann Fallon, possibly Howard Bass.
BUZZARD ROCK BAYOU BOYS = Paul Rosen, Mike Williams, John Beach, Steve Parks,
w/ Jane Gorbaty. Contra, Cajun, Western, Swing, Jug-band and old-time mountain
music. Songs of love, death and food!
MANDO MAFIA = Kelly Perdue, Lew Prichard, Pete Marshall, Bill Giltinin, Rick
Friend, Vaughn Mairs Global string-band music has its roots in old-time music,
branches just about everywhere else. Kelly recently won mandolin competition
at Mount Airy.
At Midnight, or as soon as one of the members can get there from Wolf Trap,
FREEWILL SAVAGES will play - world-beat cajun/zydeco/afro electric old time
roots music. Blend of wailing tunes of the mountains and the bayous with the
funky rhythms from around the world.
FREEWILL SAVAGES = Al Tharp, James Leva, Dave Grant, Spencer Lathrop, Rose
Sinclair. You have each of them in other bands: Beausoleil, Heartbeats,
Renegades, Hellbenders, Plank Road
THIS IS FREE TO ALL OF US LOCAL PEOPLE!!! and it would be great to

Friday nite , at 11:30 , local band ROUSTABOUT old-time string: Mark Elliot
calling contras and squares - ROUSTABOUT = Chris Romaine, Lars Hanslin, Jim
Bollman, w/ Bruce Hutton that they will be playing at least one cajun waltz.
Mark Elliot will be calling contra dances / squares. Extensive repertoire of
songs learned from traditional country/ Appalachian traditions. They've
appeared at festivals and dance camps. Jim Bollman is the owner of what he
terms the worlds "second largest and best" banjo collection, esp pre-WWI.
Saturday nite, at 11:30, Ellen Jacobs and Larry Robinson, Mark Vidor. with
Robin Schaffer calling contras. Northern style, Both Larry & Ellen formerly of
the Capital Quicksteps and Triple Delight, tossing in some tunes from farther
north, Sweden. Ellen teaches at the House of Musical Traditions. Larry also
plays with Fabragen Fiddlers klezmer music and Spelstundarna, Swedish
Mark is a member of Maggie Brown's favorite.
