Uh, I've never put much credence in the Grammys, other than as a sort
of insiders' popularity contest. That Milli Vanilli (sp?) debacle didn't
help much either. :-) But I do *really* like several of the tracks on
Sheryl Crow's CD. One or two are folksie, but IMHO it's mostly pop. And
rather nice pop, at that. Does she remind anyone else (just a little) of
Rikki Lee Jones?

A fan,
Wil.

OK, I'll bite. Sheryl Crow fits *right in* with the over-commercialized
Grammy awards. She has a pop hook sound, no denying it. She can
be listened to in the car with only 1/2 an ear. She sings mindless
pablum. But, that's what 95% of popular music is anyway. She'll
probably win all 5 awards. But I believe a Grammy award should be
considered an embarrassment, with some exceptions.

Flame away.

OK, here it goes. The debate over Sheryl Crow's abilities
should start now. She got 5 Grammy nominations. I personally
have not spent the time to search out her musical (or what some
may term "non-musical") abilites, but I figured the time was
ripe to start the debate. Go to it all you Crow lovers/haters,
it should be very entertaining.

BTW, did Iris Dement get a nomination... she's another one
whose abilities have been hotly disputed on rec.music.folk.
I will probably regret opening this can of worms, but there
it is.

Have fun, Bill Nash

Let's not be too hard on Sheryl Crow. The Tuesday Night Music Club
album is, of course, more AOR/pop than roots but all those
radio-friendly hooks shouldn't disguise the fact she is a sharp
lyricist who knows how to tell a good story. Nevertheless, I feel
that the album is ultimately less than the sum of its parts. Maybe
it's just a shade too calculated

I was out of town over New Year's weekend and missed the
countdown of WXPN's (Philadelphia) top 50 albums of the
year. Can anyone post all or part of the list, or tell
me where I might find it?

Thanks.

Chris
