"I went to the animal fair,
the birds and the beasts were there;
the big baboon, by the light of the moon,
sat combing his auburn hair.
The monkey, he got drunk
and sat on the elephant's trunk;
the elephant sneezed and fell to his knees
and that was the end of the monk, the monk, the monk."
That's all I know. Is there any more?
Can't help you out here, but the 1978 Richard Dreyfus movie comes to
mind: "The Big Fix." In the film he sings the song to his children.
Thickly plotted, but a nice film.

?I seem to have missed something -- did the whole verse get posted? If
so, sorry, because I'll just be reiterating. This is the one verse
version I know.
I went to the animal fair
The birds and the beasts were there
The old racoon by the light of the moon
Was combing his auburn hair
The monk was full of spunk
He climbed up the elephant's trunk
The elephant sneezed, and fell on his knees
And that was the end of the monk, the monk the monk, etc.
I believe that one half of the room or group is supposed to keep repeating
the monk the monk etc., in a very low voice, while the other half sings
through the verse again.
Again, apologies if my newsreader ain't picking up the original thread properly.
cheers
