Can anyone tell me the name of the hornpipe that is
part of the `Fantasia of Brittish sea songs' (by
sir Henry Wood, I believe)? It's the piece going faster
and faster.

It also occurs in Mike Oldfield's `Tubular Bells'.

Please reply by mail, the nntp-server I normally use seems to
be a bit overworked at the moment.

Thats the "Sailor's Hornpipe". That's what I always called it
anyway, and many moons ago when I was much younger and taking
piano lessons it was my favorite piece in the piano book. It
was called Sailor's Hornpipe in the book. But I'm sure it could
be known by other names also, the way Ian Morrison's Reel is also
Uncle Joe's Reel, or Billy Joe MacIsaac's Reel or Aunty Mary's second
cousin twice removed's Reel........

While I don't know the name of the hornpipe, "Mrs. McDermot (sp?)" by O'Carolan
sounds very much like it. I don't know which came first.

Bye,
Jens.
