Just a reminder that there are only 10 days left until the Ashkenaz
Dance-A-Thon, which is a 13 hour dance marathon, with live music (more than 10
bands!) in Berkeley, California. It is a fundraiser for the 26-year-old
Ashkenaz Music & Dance Community Center. To attend, dancers register and get
sponsors (you can sponsor yourself, too) who make tax-deductible donations to
Ashkenaz.

It's on Sat. Jan. 15, starting at 1:00 in the afternoon and going til at least
2 AM. Special Mediterranean food will be available, as well as the usual array
of beer, wine, and soft drinks. All ages welcome. Ashkenaz is located at 1317
San Pablo Ave, near Gilman, in Berkeley, California. Security parking is
available across the street in the REI lot.

There are some wonderful prizes this year for Dance-A-Thon participants,
including a trip for two to Rio de Janeiro! Other prizes include meals at some
of the Bay Area's finest restaurant, movie passes, and much more. The early
bird prizes (a weekend for 2 at the Claremont Spa & Resort, and a trek mountain
bike) have already been awarded.

For a registration form, or for more info, check out the Ashkenaz website: Ashkenaz (http://www.ashkenaz.com) Ashkenaz
has been a focal point for all kinds of world music and dance since 1973, and
currently presents over 300 dance events each year, in addition to daily
workshops, classes and dance troupe rehearsals. Ashkenaz is a tax-exempt
nonprofit organization, so all donations are tax-deductible.

This year the Dance-A-Thon bands are:
Hillbillies from Mars (contra dance, Andy Wilson calling)
Brenda Boykin & Home Cookin' (rhythm & blues and jazz, fabulous singing)
Zydeco Flames (the Bay Area's hottest zydeco)
California Cajun Orchestra with Danny Poullard (award winning Cajun band)
Edessa & Friends (high energy Balkan dance music)
Vassil & Maria Bebelekov (Bulgarian)
Richard Kaplan (political cantorial vocals)
Tamazgha (North African)
Jahmen (reggae)
West African Highlife Band (wonderful party music)
Tropical Vibrations (Carribbean, reggae, etc.)

Registration is $20 and each participant is asked to add at least $30 in
tax-dedectible donations. You are allowed to sponsor yourself, in which case
the total cost would be $50.

Hope to see you there! I'll be playing the fiddle with the California Cajun
Orchestra and keeping my eyes glued to the dance floor.
