Good people:

If you are visiting to New York City or its environs, we invite you to
contact the New York Pinewoods Folk Music Club (Folk Music Society of
New York, Inc.).

Pinewoods is a club in the sense of a membership organization rather
than in the sense of a venue. What we do is sponsor and cosponsor folk
music events throughout the New York metropolitan area. Among these
are concerts, folk music weekends, workshops, jam sessions, community
singing circles, and a monthly open microphone.

We also maintain Folk-Fone, which provides a recorded listing of folk
and traditional music events throughout the region, updated weekly. In
addition, our monthly newsletter contains an even more extensive
listing of folk events and venues, including clubs, concerts, coffee
houses, sessions, open microphones, festivals, and gatherings.

We especially welcome you to participate in our traditional music open
microphone, generally held the third Wednesday of each month from 7 to
10 PM at the Triad Lounge, 158 West 72nd Street near Broadway in
Manhattan. You get to perform 8 minutes or 2 songs, whichever come
first. For August only, however, we will be holding an outdoor sing-
around instead of holding the open mic. We'll be meeting at West 72nd
Street and Riverside Park at 7 PM on August 15, 2001. We will return
to the Triad Lounge on September 19, 2001.

Also, during the summer NYPFMC cosponsors a Sea Music Concert every
Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 PM at the Beekman Annex of the South
Street Seaport Museum. That's at 219 Beekman Street, at the corner of
Water Street in lower Manhattan. After the featured performer, we have
chantey singing led by New York Packet.

Other NYPFMC events for the remainder of this year include:

August 20, 2001: Bermuda Quadrangle in concert. 8 PM. Dibner
Auditorium, Polytechnic University. Metrotech Center. Brooklyn.

September 14, 2001: Debra Cowan in concert. 8 PM. Wunsch Hall Student
