Comments
========

Everyone will have their own personal favourites and their are "Classic" songs
on all the albums. Once in a Lifetime is a good place to start however as it
just manages to capture the feel of the band at a concert. From there take your
pick. The first album is not a good place to start, unless you speak Gaelic
it can easily become background music, Chi Mi'n Gheamhradh is easily the high
spot and the version on the 12" of Flower of the West is especialy powerful.
The Highland Collection is of a similar ilk the music is good but still very
raw the power of the song writing is there especialy in Going Home but the
album in general is not quite there.
Recovery and Heartland remain my favourite albums. The Gaelic is still there
as is the raw power but there is a step forward in each of these albums.
Personal favourites remain Recovery, for its heartfelt passion a brilliant
lament for the Highlanders and from Heartland, any one of the track could be
chosen but Lifeline stands out not because of any great quality but because I'm
a hillwalker and appreciate the lyrics
Cutter and The Clan, a powerful evocative album possibly the best bet for the
third album to buy, but that said a hard album to describe listen to Protect and
Survive and Rocket to the Moon on Once in a Lifetime and make up your mind.
Searchlight, A different producer and a very accesable sound Eirinn stands out
as a classic track but the rest of the album lacks the passion of the early
releases and come over far better live than on the record.
The Big Wheel, The most recent album and a good bet for 2nd purchase no tracks
realy stand out its more a case of the whole being more than the sum of the
parts. The 2 singles however are a good representation of the album.

Well thats my comments no doubt other people will have other ideas but now a
question are there any Gaelic speakers out there who have a translation of
"O Cho Meallt". I've seen the translated excerpts in "Going home" and know the
story behind the lyric but I haven't seen a full translation of either this
or the songs on "Play Gaelic". As a non-Gaelic speaker i find the songs more
interesting if I know their meanings.

My copy of "Going home" hasn't arrived yet, but I have seen copies in shops.
I thought the translation of "O cho meallt" provided was the full translation.
What makes you think it isn't? I can maybe translate bits if you tell me
what hasn't been translated.

As for the gaelic tracks on "Play Gaelic" - if you write to the fan club,
they can provide you with a translation of most of these and there's also
a translation of "Chi mi'n geamhradh" on the Catherine-Ann MacPhee album
of the same name.

Is Chi mi'n Geamhradh on the "Flower of the West" CD single? I'll need to
get hold of a copy. Don't you like "Cum 'ur n'aire" on Play Gaelic?
