GM, a regular attendee of GaFilk and other southern cons, is in the hospital
suffering from multiple organ failure. Dialysis and all other
life-sustaining treatments were discontinued this afternoon and he is
expected to pass sometime in the next couple of days. He has had kidney
failure due to diabetes and has been on various forms of dialysis for a
number of years. His health started going down last fall, so he and his
wife Melissa were unable to make it to GaFilk this year. (this was from
last Wednesday)
GM passed away sometime late last night or early this morning. Melissa is
doing ok - as well as can be expected at a time like this. (this was from
Friday morning, but I was asked to wait to post it - got the OK yesterday).
Michael
my condolences.

Do you know if GM possibly was recorded by me at GaFilk 2008? It
would have been main room late night any night. I don't have those
recordings IDed.
No, I wouldn't. If you recall, since I'm huckster head, I don't stay up for
the nighttime filking because no matter what time I go to bed, I'll be up at
6AM (and I need to be opening the dealers room at 9AM so the dealers can
prepare for the day).
Also, GM does not ID him for me. I don't know the name.
>I received this from a filk friend who doesn't post here:
Oh, my! Sincere condolences.
Is there a reason that you have only used the man's initials? Please,
who is GM?
Sandy
He's identified on the GaFilk guest list as "GM Stofega." He and his
wife Melissa were regulars there.
/lighting a candle for a friend passed on, and for a friend left
behind.
May the Holy One comfort his family.

That's the only information I have, sorry, Sandy.
I'm presuming this was deliberate, as a compromise between letting close
(though widespread) friends know and not making too public an
announcement before the immediate family has had a chance to cope and
decided whether a general announcement was appropriate.
I was very sorry to hear this. He and Melissa have been part of the
Gafilk family for quite some time.
Rob
Thank you for the IDing. I am sorry to hear of his passing. My
condolences.
