This one's been in the back of my mind since "American Idiot" came out.
I know that my last USENET filk, "Don't Feed The Trolls," was received
wall; here's the next one. I grant it was a pretty easy job, because of
repeated lyrics...

"Wake Me Up When September (1993) Ends"
ttto: "Wake Me Up When September Ends" by Green Day
Filk by scifantasy

USENET has come and passed
The Internet can never last
Wake me up when September ends

AOL has come to pass
The S/N ratio fell so fast
Wake me up when September ends

Here come the newbs again
Spamming up the news
Posting "me too!"s again
The groups are going to lose

As my signature says
The netiquette forever lost
Wake me up when September ends

USENET has come and passed
The Internet can never last
Wake me up when September ends

Flame out the trolls again
Like we did when spam began
Wake me up when September ends

Here come the newbs again
Spamming up the news
Posting "me too!"s again
The groups are going to lose

As my signature says
The netiquette forever lost
Wake me up when September ends

USENET has come and passed

Very nice, and inspired the following in me. I'm a little surprised it
hasn't been done yet, but I guess Green Day isn't exactly most filkers'
cup of tea. Oddly enough, this is the only 9/11 filk I've ever written.
Footnotes on any puzzling lines available if anyone really cares, though
I think it's rather in keeping with Green Day's style not to explain
anything. :-)

Wake Me Up When September (2001) Ends

by Aaron Davies

ttto "Wake My Up When September Ends" by Green Day

History had come and passed
The innocence could never last

Wake me up when September ends

On that day I sat in class
The towers, they both fell so fast

Wake me up when September ends

Here comes the news again
Ruining my day
Terrorist blues again
Someone ought to pay

As my memories rest
But never forget those we lost

Wake me up when September ends

History had come and passed
The innocence could never last

Wake me up when September ends

Tune out the news again
Like we did before the war

Wake me up when September ends

Here comes the news again
Ruining my day
Terrorist blues again
Someone ought to pay

As my memories rest
But never forget those we lost

Wake me up when September ends

History had come and passed
The innocence could never last

Wake me up when September ends

On that day I sat in class
The towers, they both fell so fast

Wake me up when September ends
Wake me up when September ends
Wake me up when September ends

Sorry about that - I'm changing computers and hadn't gotten around to
putting up a link to the list from the new one. Will do, in any case.

Want this one archived?

I'm reminded of how I felt when I was sitting in math class and a
shocked looking teacher ran in to tell us that President Kennedy had
been assasinated.

Yes, please. Come to think of it, you may as well put me on the
auto-archive list. My quantity's not that great, but I try to make up
with quality. :-)

Oh I don't know, Green Day seems very abusable. I wrote a Highlander Filk to

I guess it depends on your generation, and the stations you listen to.
My friend's twelve year old wrote one to "American Idiot," called
"Imperial Idiot." Did a pretty good job of it, too.

Would she care to share it with us?

PS Barry's scheduled for a lithotripsy next Thursday to break up some
chance-found kidney stones. Prayers will be appreciated.

That would be up J'nae, and her son. I can pass along the request.

Yes, please. I certainly consider J'nae's son to be a filker given the
number of filksings he's attended, along with his mother.

Do vibrations played for kidney stones count as rock music?
(Sorry. Best wishes anyway.)

Yes, and thank you.
And oh yes, thanks to Michael for the horrible pun.
We were delighted that all the cat scan found was that
Barry had some miscellaneous kidney stones.

The urologist says is that it's rare but by no means
unknown for a man to have a sudden gush of blood
come down the penis from a broken tiny blood vessel,
but it certainly scared both of us until the cat scan
didn't show any problems.
