This newsgroup seems my most likely Chance of finding anybody who might know
something about the history of the Cabart brand name. Well, I ran across
a bassoon with the name Cabart stamped on the bell joint. It is a Heckel
system instrument that was evidently made in Paris. Has anybody heard of
such a thing? I can find no reference to Cabart ever having made a bassoon
even though I have spent hours searching. The serial number is 315. I
did run across a reference saying that Cabart was a decent maker who was at
some point bought out by Loree. Is this something that was made before the
Loree buy-out or after? And either way, is this purported to be a good
piece of work?

Thank you for any info at all

I've only run into the name as an oboe maker, not as good as Loree,
but quite good even so. In fact I owned one for a while. The low
serial number suggests that they may have made a few bassoons,
perhaps as a favor to regular customers. I'm sure there's a double
reed mailing list somewhere, but I wouldn't know how to find it.
