There is a recording of a "Stabat Mater pour les religieuses" (H.15)
by Marc-Antoine Charpentier. The title of the CD is "Oeuvres pour le
Port Royal" and it is on the Ricercar label (RIC 052034). The music is
interpreted by the Capella Ricercar and features sopranos Greta de
Reyghere, Isabelle Poulenard and Jill Feldman. Also on this CD are a
Magnificat (H.81), a mass (H.5), a Dixit Dominus (H.226) and a Laudate
Dominum (H.227), all of them "pour le Port Royal". It is a
particularly beautiful CD and I highly recommend it.

The "Stabat Mater pour les religieuses" (H.15) is also on another
absolutely exquisite CD by Le Concert des Nations with Jordi Savall.
The CD is called "Canticum ad Beatam Virginem Mariam" on the
Astrée/Auvidis label (E 8713). On this version, the Stabat Mater is
actually more than 12 minutes long as opposed to barely more than 3 on
the Ricercar CD. Of the two interpretations, I prefer Savall's with
singers Montserrat Figueras, Maria Christina Kiehr, Maite Arruabarrena
and Gérard Lesne. You will be astounded at the beauty of the music
recorded on this CD. Also note that it got a "Choc de la musique", a
"Diapason d'Or", and a "Must" form Compact Disc Magazine. Get it for
the wonderful Stabat Mater, but also for the rest of the pieces
recorded on the CD. It's arguably one of the best Charpentier
recordings.

Enjoy!

Yes, the Ricercar recording is great. The Magnificat (pour le Port Royal) a
3 v v and bass is breathtakingly gorgeous! Are there any Charpentier
fanatics out there who can advise me how to get hold of the score (either in
facsimile or in a modern edition) of Charpentier's Mass a 6 "Assumpta est
Maria" (H.11). It has been recorded several times, but I can't track down
the printed notes anywhere. (The Minkoff complete edition isn't going to get
to this piece for some years, apparently)
