Houston Early Music is about to begin its exciting 1999/2000 season with a
very special concert,
The Mozartean Players
Friday, September 17, 1999, 8:00 p.m.
Stude Concert Hall, Rice University
You will be dazzled by an evening of Viennese splendor when we celebrate the
glorious legacy of Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven with the Mozartean Players,
an ensemble whose "zestful flair really strikes sparks." Cutting-edge
classics! Ever since making their critically-acclaimed Carnegie Recital Hall
debut in 1979, The Mozartean Players have appeared regularly in New York
City's major concert halls and on tour throughout the United States, Canada
and Europe. The core ensemble of Steven Lubin (fortepiano), Stanley Ritchie
(classical violin), and Myron Lutzke (classical cello) specializes in the
masterworks of the classical and early romantic periods in music, performing
the repertoire of Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert and Mendelssohn on
instruments of the period and on modern instruments.
At this concert, Houston Early Music will honor the extraordinary spirit and
glorious legacy of Eleanor Searle McCollum. Through the music of great
masters, we pay tribute to her philanthropic endeavors and years of devoted
patronage to the arts in Houston.

Bach at the Millennium Series
============================
What better way to begin the new millennium than by paying homage to the
life of one of music's giants?
Join us as we pay special tribute to J.S. Bach in the millennial year-and
also mark the 250th anniversary of his death-by presenting a series of four
performances and lectures by internationally known Bach scholars (two in the
spring and two in the fall of 2000). These events will focus on different
facets of this extraordinary man's life.
Bach comes to us across the centuries as a larger-than-life icon; yet, he
was quintessentially human. Through his works, Bach speaks to all people
and allows us to experience a common humanity. Visit Bach at the different
seasons of his life, and through his music, reach out to touch the sublime.
