With Robert Fuhrel's passing, I am reminded once again of the many friendships we've made here on rmd and how fragile life is. With Don Freeman's passing, we've now lost at least 2 group stalwarts in as many years, that we know of. This causes me to remember all the great posters who have passed here through the years and what may have happened to them. Off the top of my head, I wonder what happened to:

Pilgrim
ironhills
Mr. Jinx
bobette
frinjdwelr
treadleson
Bernie Woodham
Barbara
wilburslice
francois
Brother Jumbo
Martin (both)
poisoned rose
teferet

red stranger
badlands
terry
johanna4ever
temporarilylikeachilles
mlebanc
maureen

and many, many more I cannot recall without further research at this time.

Poisoned Rose (Eric) was last spotted modeling himself for inclusion into Usenet's Mount Rushmore.

Whereas Nazi-(Bruce) was last spotted posting on Rec.Music.Beatles, composing yet another black recording artist "list" while licking James Brown's tombstone .. all at the behest of his cradle robbing dominatrix-girlfriend, DianeE.

If a 90-year-old dates an 80-year-old, that's cradle robbing?

No, I'd inded have to cut them a break, so long as he still enjoys changing her diapers at the home where they'll be blissfully residing.

As I understand it, he still posts from time to time on other newsgroups. Not here, however, because we're all too stupid for him.

Poisoned Rose left this ng years ago because he became tired of being shown up by everyone and Don's lists (which I enjoyed) annoyed the shit out of him.

He then began to prey upon posters in rec.music.beatles full time and left sometime late last summer because he and his giant ego weren't being appreciated enough (he had gone once before for awhile then returned because he thought RMB needed him to make the newsgroup good again).

Look for him to return to RMB. The criminal always returns to the scene of the crime.

But, considering it's the only funny thing you've ever posted, Usenet is most grateful.

A very good start. Speaking of crazytimes, in April 2011, he/she gifted us with this memorable list--even if I doubt the claim that it actually represents votes cast by the readers of and the posters to rmd. A lot of names here that I wouldn't want to see forgotten as rmd nears its 30th anniversary in July 2019.

Thanks, man of ore, so many names I missed. Good names; great people.

I remember this list when crazytimes posted it. So many new ones to add since.

But I don't remember the group being such a rat's nest. Oh we had arguments, and the occasional shill would drop by to make us appreciate moderation. But such vitriol I don't remember. Do you?

I was kind of thinking that that's who you were thinking of, but jbuck was pretty definitely not a baseball player. Tracked down an old post of his from 2008 where he said "Well, I went 2 for 3. A .667 batting average. If I was a baseball player I could make a pretty good living." That pretty much implies that he wasn't a baseball player.

Actually, a few people thought he might be the sportscaster Jack Buck. But he threw cold water on that one too. I think jbuck lived up in Maine and I seem to recall him taking a lot of flak for the crime of posting through WebTV.

Very hard to compare different times, particularly since the past tends to become vaguer in one's memory, while the present generally seems very stark, by comparison. In fact, I believe that one of the earliest forms of utopian thinking involved the Greek belief that there had been a Golden Age at the outset of mankind's history and then a steady deterioration coming up to the present.

It does seem to me that whatever vitriol we had here twenty years ago was more rooted in religious disputation than in politics, while the reverse is true today. We had some pretty intolerant religious fundamentalists back then, perhaps because we were closer to the time of Dylan's gospel phase, which resulted in the creation of a type of Dylan fan we see much less of these days--at least in these precincts.

Actually, the phenomenon that I find most curious nowadays is that of some rmd posters Who post regularly, but who seem to have very little (if any) interest at all in Dylan and regard it as bizarre that anyone else would have such an interest.

What you don't realize, apparently, is that with Poisoned Rose, for most of our "discussions" from about 2001 on, I borrowed a technique from my hero, Muhammad Ali, that Ali used against George Foreman called "Rope-a-Dope". Then there was an update to this "number of posts" list a couple of years ago, during a period in which Rachel had dropped out of sight for a while, in which Will had gained serious ground--he might have even reached an order of magnitude of Rache.

Sometime i guess around two thousand and something the NG was invaded with bullshit. I was addicted to trading....but all things must pass.

Someone please pass these kind sentiments along to my beloved daughter, who four years ago, got herself diagnosed by her head doctor as having bi polar disorder. And as my just reward, she hasn't spoken a word to me, nor responded to my many inquiries as to her well being in over three three years of gruesome minimizing my very existence.

"Oh bla di, oh bla da - life goes on" - yeah right.

GD, you don't seem to realize that some of your comments are really rather offensive! Your comments about Bernie and Elizabeth for example... they are heroes and role models, Imo... you don don't seem to realize that Trump, the man you seem to adore, is an ignorant idiot, a conman, a bully, a bigot, a buffoon, a narcisstic, a scumbag, a mendacious nutcase and monster- and those are his *good* qualities!

so...I'm offensive and your not....It's the typical liberal point of view. You love free speech as long as its the language that you speak.

If I feel that Trump is fucking up I'll drop the mother fucker like a
hot potato. And I don't give a shit what my neighbors may think....I never accepted any of their kool-aid even on a hot muggy day.
if you need a super hero you might want to go with chi cavera and the beard instead of bernie and Pocahontas.

I have no problem with you saying anything you want, but you have to understand that when you say something offensive or stupid, you may be called on it.

Offensive or stupid as decided by you, of course. Thus you yourself have just been called out for lying, yet again,as decided by me, your personal group moderator.

In that case, know that I'm still waiting for you to cease using the term the term "others" and list the names and their pecking order within this group's leftist blitzkrieg, that often put upon the right at a 10 to 3 anti-Trump ratio.

Meanwhile I will relent by presuming that you, Marcus, were only allowed into their fold, here, to serve as your Commissar's group secretary. :)

that's just the way they operate
They want to get so far to the left of reason they sometimes wonder within a drunken daze and then creep too close to the edge of the boulevard.
One must always keep their eyes and mind open.
