Jewel's sleep-deprived dream
GUYS who don't want to sleep with Jewel must be gay - just ask her.
The sexy songbird, who played the Performing Arts Center in Newark on
Wednesday, told her audience about a dream she had when she was 16, in
which she played guitar with Bob Dylan and slept with him. Later, in
real life, after she became famous and went on tour with Dylan, she
was summoned to the rocker's dressing room. "I thought, 'My dream is
coming true, not only am I playing with Bob Dylan, I'm going to sleep
with him.' " But much to her disappointment, he didn't make a pass at
her. "Obviously Bob Dylan is gay if he's not interested in me," Jewel
cracked to the crowd. "I mean, look at me." She showed off her skimpy
tank top and micro-miniskirt. "Who would have guessed that Dylan is a
fag? That's going to get me in trouble. It's going to be in all the
papers tomorrow." Just in the only paper that matters, Jewel.

Maybe he read her book of 'poetry' and was too concerned about not cracking up
while talking to her, let alone while fucking her.

I think Bob sort of took a fatherly interest in Jewel, rather than
wanting to have sexual relations with her.

Maybe that's why Dylan can't make the George Harrison tribute-- he's got to
track Jewel down.

Have you guys read some of that poetry of hers? If you haven't you must.
Especially if you haven't laughed in awhile. I usually try to be polite
about someone "expressing their inner selves" but hey...who knew Jewel was
truly a comedian...she has now confirmed it with this last bit of stuff! I
thought she was serious there for awhile.

I find the use of the "f" word to be distasteful and offensive. I'm surprised
because she should know better. Even if it was said jokingly, it was a poor
word choice.

She is definitely hung up on herself. There is a story where Jewel was
talking to Howard Stern backstage on someone's show. Maybe Letterman. James
Carville who was also a guest walked by and saw them talking. Obviously he
looked to long for Jewel who yelled at him, "HAVEN'T YOU SEEN A WOMAN WITH
BIG BREASTS BEFORE?!??!"

No one yells at James Carville and maintains my respect.

This story seems to get juicier with time. Someone who saw her here in
my home town last summer told me she said that she had a dream that she
played with him, and he made a pass at her. When she met him and played
with him he didn't make the pass. She must tell that story at every show
she does.

Can you please provide the complete list of words that shouldn't be
used? I seem to have misplaced mine. I for one will not listen to Ms.
Jewel again until she calls Bob and tells him that she really meant to
call him a homosexual. I'm sure they'll both feel a lot better.

You might take a look up your ass, whitey. It's basic human decency to not
refer to minority groups with terms they deem hateful. I simply said I found it
distasteful and offensive I didn't say she should not use it. It's her
prerogative to use words others deem offensive.

Sounds to me like she was only half joking, like she got her feelings -- or
her ego, whatever you want to call it -- a bit hurt and was reaching for an
insult to make herself feel better. Who knows if when she sees a gay man she
thinks "fag" or "gay," but I'll guess the latter. Old prejudice dies hard.

I dreamed I slept with Jewel last night
Alive as you & me
Wearing see-through PJs
In utmost ecstasy
With a blanket covering her boobs
And her hair of solid gold
Snoring from her silly rhymes
What a wonder to behold

"Arise, arise, you little cow"
I spoke without restraint,
"I'll let you be my princess queen
If I can be your saint"
But she just rolled onto her side
And gave the bed a shimmy
Inside the chorus of her snorus
I heard her mumble "Zimmy"

I dreamed I slept with Jewel last night
Alive with funny teeth
I dreamed she was on top of me
(Or was it underneath?)
Oh, I awoke in anger
So alone and full of dread
Then I laid back against the pillow
And dreamed of J-Lo instead

Not to get off on a tangent here, but I've always thought Arlo's use of the
word "faggots" in the original "Alice's Restaurant Massacree" was on of the
most unfortunate mistakes in modern recordings.

Of course, Arlo has corrected this since, yet that moment is left forever.

Arlo is one of the more sensible and sensitive artists we have----Yet, I still
cringe when I hear that line.

is it really fair to judge someone, or his art, outside of his/its proper time.
Don't forget, this was pre Stonewall. As you pointed out, with a raised
consciousness, Arlo changed this. He always was and probably always will be one
of our most sensible and sensitive artists. I'm looking foward to seeing him
and Pete Seeger honoring what would have been Woody's 90th birthaday in a
couple of weeks.

Arlos's awareness is keener than most.

In late 1995 when he recorded "The Massacree Revisted" (released in '96), the
lines went like this = "Imagine one person, I mean even today, walking in
singing Alice's Restaurant. Walking out. They're gonna say "Hey that guy's
thirty years too late. Get that guy out of here....Imagine two of them walking
in hand in hand singing in harmony. I don't care what the president says.
Unfortunetly, to a lot of people, that's still a problem...."

Arlo has done much to spread AIDS awareness and his organization continues to
educate and help.

Again, just a dated and UNFORTUNATE use of words back when that are forever
etched in time.

One should never miss an opportuinity to see Arlo. Pete's appearances's are
getting rarer these days---Should be a great experience.

Kreilly, you need to lighten up with your gestapo politcal correctness. I
know someone who is gay and the word fag doesn't bother him at all. In the
future it will probably be appropriated by the gay community in the same way
they've taken the word queer, a word used formerly for putdowns, and made it
their own and now you study Queer Theory in literary studies. Who really cares
what words people use if they have no chance of influencing the consciousness
of people in a negative way that may lead to harm on a physical level
(beatings, discrimination, etc.). Jewel doesn't have that power.
I don't know what your background is regarding sex, ethnicity, whatever
else you want to divide it up into, but do you call people of European descent
in the USA European Americans or do you call them white? If you call them white
then I'm offended by you and your primitive, racist, intolerant ways of
thinking. I'm offended to be called white and not European American. Why does
everyone else get to change their classification from a color to an ethnic
background. I just can't go on being considered white anymore and you better
heed my wishes or you're racist or intolerant.
My point is, relax a bit and leave your continual barrage of academic
discourses at the university every now and then.Your response to the one poster
who asked what words were okay to use by telling him to look up his ass belies
your holier than thou, above all these crass, ignorant people, political
correctness front.
Of course, I mean this with all due respect. :-)

A good example of my somewhat brash posting style of two decades ago, a bit swaggering, often makes even me wince at it, and probably did little to endear me around here at rec.music.dylan.

But I also actually had a few good points to make on the whole Jewel and Dylan incident:

Anyway, folks, I take it that this little trip down memory lane at least dispels the accusations made yesterday that I did not start on this newsgroup posting valid and worthwhile "Bob Dylan" content.

Love it or hate it, I did/do have my particular and long-thought-out views, opinions and theories on the art of Bob Dylan.
