Hi boys 'n' girls, I would you to know what's the meaning of the song
"No time to think".
I know that's talk 'bout his love, but I think that the meanings are a
lot. For example:
- "You're a soldier of mercy, you're cold and you curse, He who cannot
-be trusted must fall."
Who is the soldier of mercy (it sounds like somthing Biblical)?
or :
- "You fight for the throne and you travel alone Unknown as you slowly
-sink And there's no time to think."
Who fights for the Trone? What's the Throne?
or:
- "The empress attracts you but oppression distracts you And it makes
-you feel violent and strange."
The empress in the tarots symbolize (correct me if I make a mistake)
the Karma (fate). What's the meaning in this case?
and:
"Judges will haunt you, the country priestess will want you
Her worst is better than best." another tarot the priestess (The Pope)
I'dont know the meaning of this.
and:
"duality, mortality". Very impressive!!! The duality is linked to
mortality in facts the Trinity is immortal!!!
and: "Where the lion lies down with the lamb." This is a biblical
verse.
"But the magician is quicker..." another tarot the magician is the
simbol of the infinity (if I remember well)
"Mercury, gravity" what's the logical link with Mercury and gravity?
"Lovers obey you but they cannot sway you They're not even sure you
exist." another ....tarot the lovers symbolize the conscious and
unconscious.
"No time to choose when the truth must die,No time to lose or say
goodbye,No time to prepare for the victim that's there,No time to
suffer or blink And no time to think."
In the end what's the meaning of truth that MUST die. Who is the
victim (the lamb?)

I don't understand I think that is a very difficult song, like a lot
of Dylan song, this is the beautiful of Dylan, if you want you can
"surf" the lyrics, but even you can dive in it. Great Bob!!

There is someone who could answer and link all these quotes?
Thanks a lot!!! Great newsgroup!!

diego,

keep in mind that this is the last album before bob's conversion to
christianity. a conversion that included sobriety. this song, let alone the
entire album seems to address the idea of being sick of the way he is living
his live. look especially at 'where are you tonight'

I bit into the root of forbidden fruit with the juice running down my leg.
. . .
If you don't believe there's a price for this sweet paradise, remind me to show
you the
scars.
. . .
I can't believe it, I can't believe I'm alive,
But without you it just doesn't seem right.
Oh, where are you tonight?

these lines sum up the idea of the album. all of these songs express a sense
of emptiness that had before becoming sober and finding his own spirituality.
keep in mind that what it became is what we saw in the following four albums,
but this album must really be looked at without actual consideration of slow
train, saved, shot of love & infidels. let me know what you think.

to tell you the truth i have not been able to stop listening to this album over
the past sixty-some-odd days. especially bob's journey through the dark heat.

do i make sense?

Joshua
"Well, God is in heaven
And we all want what's his
But power and greed and corruptible seed
Seem to be all that there is"
-Bob Dylan

Makes perfect sense to me. I too have been pretty obsessed with Where Are
You Tonight since about the time the remixed Street Legal was released.
Changing of the Guards often seems to be quoted as the album's masterpiece
but it's Where Are You Tonight that I keep playing over. A few times I find
I've driven to work and just listened to this one song over and over.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who does this. Only difference is,
I've been doing it since the original release and for much longer
distances. :-)

Just thought I'd mention it...
