Any ideas on removing the annoying residue left after removing price
stickers from jewel cases?
I was told that Big Kev's Goo Remover (available only in Australia to
my knowledge) is great -- it is derived from orange essence or
something. There are other orange-based removers out there as well, I
understand

I had used eucalyptus oil but it seemed to dull the plastic surface

cheers

Ah, one of lifes problems, that sticky residue. I have always used white
spirit (used here in lil'ole England for thining oil-based paint and
cleaning brushes) it cleans the residue off a treat and does not dull the
plastic jewel case. Also it some shops will find you a CD without stickers
if you ask.

I have used peanut butter or mayonaise to remove glue. Some kind of
chemical emulsifying takes place and the fat dissoves it.

You might want to try just buying a new jewel case too, if it really bothers
you....they go for what, 50-cents each...might be easier than lighter fluid
and peanut butter !! (now that's a powerful sandwich !!)

There is stuff callled Goo Gone that works really well for stuff like
that. Also it doesn't damage the the cd case at all. You can get it at
any store like Target or Lowes.

I use a citrus-smelling, yellow-colored liquid. It's called Goo Gone:
http://www.magicamerican.com/googone.shtml. I used a different
product at first and I found that it "melted" my cases. Be sure to
check that it's safe for use on plastic.

Try plain old rubbing alcohol.

Goo Gone is the best. I agree.

Goo Gone by Magic American Corporation of Cleveland is the best
all-around sticky residue remover.

Changing the case always works perfectly.

Peanut butter does a great job. And it tastes great too!

Yeah, that's good stuff. I first bought it to remove some sticker
residue from glass, and then I realized it worked great on plastic as
well. Doesn't leave a film either.

Nail polish remover. Works great & fast, plus it's cheap and
available everywhere, and it's not as harsh as turpentine. (Doesn't
taste great, though.)

There is this citrus-smelling stuff here in the US...it works great, I can't
think of what it's called right away.

Peanut butter may taste great, but Goo Gone smells great. Plus, this
product answers the question posed by Dylan in "Union Sundown."
What's made in the USA? Goo Gone!

Before or after?

Although it is apparently good for many more things,

*don't* Use Big Kev's Goo Remover on jewel cases!

I used it on a case tonight and it seemed to 'melt' it -- you know what I
mean.

But peanut butter, on the other hand, is great! I followed with a wash in
some Dove dishwashing liquid to get rid of the fatty resudue.

Thanks for the suggestions, one and all

As Big Kev says, "I'm excited!"

And dangerous:

Acetone is a water-white, highly combustible liquid with a boiling point of 56
degrees C (133 degrees F). Using cumene as feedstock, we produce acetone together
with phenol in one process. Similar to phenol, acetone has a wide variety of uses,
from solvent in numerous applications to chemical intermediate in the production
of acrylics, polycarbonates and fine chemical intermediates.

Goo Gone is good... but also, I always use the fantastically versitile WD-40 to
remove annoying sticky stuff from pretty much everything.
