I'd say Shelton's just making a reference to the 'no limit' part of the title.

There's a couple of interesting comments on the title from 1965 concert
performances :

"The name of this song is a, is a fraction. Love Minus Zero is on the top
and underneath is No Limit. I made the title before I made the song." From
Manchester Free Trade Hall May 7, 1965.

"I painted the title first. I painted it in maroon and silver". From
Newcastle May 9, 1965.

There's also that comment (joke) from a couple of years ago : "My first
wife was a tennis player. Love meant nothing to her."

<how does "no limit" pertain to gambling?>

There is no limit on the amount of money you can bet (or raise, if
you're meeting another players' wager)

What happens if you subtract zero from love?

You'll get plenty of nothing.

How did the /No Limit bit come in? The Original LP just lists it as Love
Minus Zero. Am I thick? Probably. But I must 'fes up to being stumped. Help.
