Oops....I meant to ask ...

Is Howard Stern a Bob Dylan fan ?

I've been listening closely to his shows for the last 10+ years and I always
felt there was a connection between Howard Stern and Bob Dylan.

I have no real "evidence" to speak of, but these two incident stick out in
my mind.

1) Howard has used Dylan songs for his own songs, like "The Headlines They
Are a-Changing."

2) Recently, when he interviewed Fred Goodman, author of _Mansion on the
Hill_, he appeared to be familiar with Dylan's career, which of course is
not surprising considering Stern's age.

All I want for Christmas is to learn that there is absolutley no connection
between Bob and Howard Stern.

I do know that Don Imus is a Bob fan. He fequently plays his songs on the air
(namely: Times, Subteranean, Maggie's Farm, Rolling Stone(bootleg series vol. 2
version)) and bob's name often comes up in a broadcast.

Still hoping that Christmas wish will come true, Joshua

Seem to be all that there is"

another possible connection could be that they are both jewish -- maybe not
practicing but they were descended as such. just a thought. mike --

One apparent connection is that Larry "Ratso" Sloman, a Rolling Thunder
tour alumnus, is a friend of Stern's.

If you've listened to Howard at all it seems pretty obvious that his taste
in music is about as far from any of Dylan's work as you could probably
get. On the other hand, the few times Dylan has been mentioned on air,
whether it be because he popped up in the news or whatever, I was surprised
that Howard didn't take the opportunity to tear him apart. He's made
jokes, sure, but fairly tame ones--and often pretty funny. The "Blowin' in
the Wind" parody made me laugh when I really was in no mood to, and there
is something to be said for anything that can do that.

Back in May last year when Bob was sick, Stern made jokes about the
illness. He claimed Bob was either using heroin or having sex with bats.

Those aren't the words of a "fan" ...

Didn't Howard poke fun at Bob while interviewing Jakob one time?
I have a fuzzy memory of this. Jakob was a little protective of his
dad, but didn't go for the bait.

I'd be disappointed if Bob was a Howard Stern fan. I find Howard one
of the least amusing people on the planet.

I dont think its entirely true about bob being so far from howards
tastes. In one of his intelligence tests to some porn star he asked if
she could name three beatles albums. By the way she couldnt. I think she
also couldnt tell him who the vice president is.

He is familiar with Dylan and knows a lot about Dylan as Bob is a cultural icon and he cannot be ignored. However, Howard has a bug up his ass about Dylan. His Eat Shit Bob Dylan comment when inducting Bon Jovi is, I am not sure what that was. Was not funny and sounded like Howard holds Dylan in contempt. He is not a fan of BOb's music and he generally makes fun of Dylan, his voice mostly, when he does bring up Zimmy. THis must be put in context as Howard's musical tastes are very juvenile in the way he heavily focuses on the Beatles only. I love the Beatles but there are other great bands too. As far as being a better songwriter than Lennon/McCartney there is no debate. Dylan has the more variegated lyrics and is more prolific than the Beatles. Anyway, I digress. Howard may acknowledge Dylan's place in cultural iconography, but he hates Dylan's music.
He just does not get it.....
