Where the heck did the Continentals come from? I have two of their songs
on compilations, but I can't find any info about them online.

Perhaps BB with his knowledge of pop music, can help me here, even the
band is pretty damn white.

Are you sure that the Continentals you have on compilations are the same Continentals who appear in that YouTube clip? The latter were basically a group of Italian-American kids from Mamaroneck, in Westchester County, a few miles north of New York City (as Ted Mack says in the clip).

But there was also an r&b group made up of black kids from Brooklyn who used the same name. They definitely recorded, which I'm not sure was true of the Mamaroneck group.

Good point - one is on a doowop collection. But one is on a garage
compilation someone made me. I might have both groups, but this will
take some looking to find these dumb discs.

Well, the one on the group harmony collection is almost certainly the Continentals from Brooklyn. Hard to say for sure about the one from the garage compilation until you find it and learn the title of their cut. But I've got a feeling that that's a third group called the Continentals, who came from Massena, New York, way up north near the Canadian border. In 1966, they released Sick & Tired/Almost a Man on the D&C label--and that one has turned up on at least a couple of garage compilations over the years.

Of course, there were also Joey and the Continentals (Cleveland), Teddy and the Continentals (Wilmington, Delaware) and Billy John and the Continentals (Louisiana)--all in the garage genre. So, you'll need more information to be sure.

There's also a Wichita Falls, TX garage banded that recorded between
1966-67 that often shows up on comps of TX garage bands.

And it appears that there was yet another from Oklahoma City. Obviously, a very popular name for garage bands.

It was a big social event when they practiced at our place. Ma would cook 4 them, and all the girls were my bff that weekend! lmao. They played weddings, proms, and teen dances at the VFW & Teen Center. The draft, and Vietnam broke that band up shortly after they all graduated, in 1968.
