All trolls feed off attention. Each troll has one overriding theme, and occasionally a few minor themes, repeated ad nauseam. If someone alludes to the troll’s activity, without even mentioning the troll’s name, the troll is inclined to retaliate with abusive threads and personal attacks. That trolls are able to succeed shows that a great number of people will tolerate nearly anything if they perceive a benefit to themselves: the harm caused to others, or to the overall group, is not their problem. This is part of the breeding ground that gave us a President who embodies many characteristics of the troll.

Let me run this past you. It suddenly occurred to me, during my daily
efforts to come to terms with what the hell happened on November 8.

I think that during the election campaign the cultural archetype in the back
of many Americans' minds was Margaret Dumont vs. the Marx Brothers. Now, of
course, the Marx Brothers' characters were benign and lovable, but basically
they were "all id." They did (Harpo) and said (Groucho) whatever they felt
like at the moment, no matter how inappropriate or unrealistic. Margaret
Dumont, the stiff-backed high-society woman, was a perfect foil because she
was no match for them. They just ran rings around her while she stood there
trilling (not trolling) "This is outrageous!" Of course the audience
identifies with the Marx Brothers and rejoices as they completely flummox
her.

Well, if nothing else, it's a metaphor that helps me make sense of what
otherwise makes no sense at all. What do you think, M. Rick?

I think that half the people who voted for Trump are dyed in the wool
Republicans who would vote for a tree if that's who their candidate
was. Another quarter are dumbass deplorables who are descendants of
the Silent Majority, the Evangelical right wing, and the Tea Party

Well, as I said, I think I've found one, as outlined above. Let's fuck up

I understand the impulse very well. I finally managed to resist it, as did

Trump seems to have a deep, intuitive understanding of our collective unconscious... as the reality tv show, entertainer, demagogue that he is, he knows how to tap into people darkest, most primitive selves... Like Hitler, he can drag to the surface of many people's minds and hearts, all their worst impulses- fear, rage, jealousy, greed, hatred, bigotry etc... Some people appeal and magnify our better angels, and some like Trump appeal to our worst most fascist selves...
If anyone haven't seen the movies "The Dead zone" or "A face in the crowd", please check them out ASAP! They are uncannily prescient about the dangers to the U.S and the world that demagogues can bring about!

Shalom & Erev tov...isn't it ironic that the Bigot Troll keeps iterating the same nonsensical mantra of demure malice...hiding his antipathy (in more polite settings, I would correctly label it as antisemitism) toward genuine scholarship by never once engaging in ideational dialogue. Dialogue with ideas entails the inability of the Bigot Troll to display creative thought. The Bigot Troll is anti-intellectual...and anti-womanist. Notice the ill-disguised use of 'breeding ground'. He is using foetus politics, presenting an image of the hidden foetus to create a symbolic critique of his politics of 'bare life', where fascists such as himself attempt to determine what/who is considered 'alive', rendering womanists ontologically 'dead' by calling them 'trolls', awarding citizenship to that which is not human, viz. a foetus. There is nothing I do not find repulsive about this Bigot Troll.

The election makes sense and you're way off the mark(s). The Marx Brothers archetypal days are long gone. Not many people under 50 even know who they are. I doubt more than one in a hundred “take down Clinton” voters know she went to a school named Wellesley. Millions of people hate Obama just as much as Hillary and they also view Obama as a snooty elitist. The better connection to the campaign is reality TV. In any case, my post is about the trolls and the people who tolerate and support the trolls. They do so out of perceived self-interest without much concern for those who are harmed.

You have Obama and Hillary and their decrepit and corrupt Democratic political/media/Wall St elite establishment to thank for your hated Trump. The difference between them and the deplorables is that these people were simply able to monetize their worst impulses--fear, rage, jealousy, greed, hatred, bigotry etc. A while back I was called out for fakery in these threads for fingering the luxe, aberrational existence of the corrupt neo-lib/neo-con DC elites, though it was indisputably true and I had the numbers to back up my claim. Trump just came up with a different term--swamp. I get that some will still deny this reality as they continue to struggle with the outcome of the election and place the blame everywhere except where it belongs. Obama's legacy is the streets of Chicago. Read Emerson about Compensation. Take the rag away from your face, NOW's the time for your tears.

Here's the reason exactly why you lost the election: The hatred, loathing and disgust is directed toward YOU, not the President. Everyone in this country is sick and tired of inbred Talmudic homosexual commie satanist pederasts, and we want you dead. If you would just wake up to that REALITY you probably wouldn't have lost the election. But I'm glad you stubbornly cling to your delusional idiocy, because I thereby heap coals upon your head. Keep your head up your syphilitic anus, that's exactly where it belongs. The more you do that, the better, as far as I'm concerned, because I really want to create a society without garbage like you in it.

Maybe so, but the corrupt elite won three million more votes than the corrupt deplorables. I don't recall Republican voters shedding any tears over the drug trade slaughter. In terms of policy, we would enact stronger anti-drug laws and increase enforcement, but the corruption and unfairness will persist, because those responsible for enacting and enforcing those laws are also participants in the illegal drug trade.

I guess that means it's time to dust off the ol' top ten list submission I made to the Letterman Show that never aired:

Top Ten Reasons Drug Dealers Vote Republican

10. Toughening current drug laws mean higher prices.
9. Democrats would impose Quality Standards Act & Bureau of Administration.
8. End to food stamps program means cash customers only.
7. Harder to blackmail politicians when it’s legal.
6. When you’re wasted, even Rush Limbaugh sounds intelligent.
5. Hey, it’s free market capitalism, isn’t it?
4. You need guns to do the business right.
3. Payoffs have to count for something.
2. Best way to appear legitimate in the community.
1. They control the drug supply, don’t they?

Good grief, could you be any more insufferable?

Trump promises to drain the swamp, then names three (or is it four?) Goldman-Sachs people to high positions in his administration, including the Cabinet. Aside from that, we have politicians with no experience in the area to which they're nominated, captains of industry representing the 0.001%, and lobbyists.

Define "swamp".

That is a bizarre claim. What specifically do you mean by this?

BTW, most of the streets of Chicago are nice and safe. When you and Trump
say "Chicago" you are talking about one section of Chicago, and 90% of this
