I hope you had a great week with your son, Barbara. And I admire you
for making the above apology. Always remember what a tiny thing rmd is
in the scheme of things :)
Barbara, I appreciate the apology, especially if it means that I'm not
really rmd's worst troll and that you don't really want me to leave rmd.
And please don't forget that I like to be called by my rmd name.
Besides, all your anger wasn't really your fault. You were set up by
that guy who tried to cast shame on all the folks in rmd who didn't
respond to your joyous event post.
You were also set up by Not Dark Yet who used, as an excuse for
attacking my post on Norrie, the idea that I am cruel to you. I've said
this before, and I'll say it again. I am not being cruel, just because I
argue against some of the things you say.
Now please enjoy your reunion with your son and don't worry about these
minor piffles that occur in newsgroups.

So. How does everyone seem to know your real name? Just wondering.

Ironic he replaced it with his current choice. ie: Something not
real.
Not that I care mind you.

I changed my name because someone said, in rmd, only an idiot would use
their real name in a newsgroup.
My real name wasn't so real anyway. It was sort of my slave name. It was
the name chosen by my grandfather to deal with the American immigration
authorities, when he came to America to escape the pogroms. I identify
with Muhammad Ali in my attempt to change my name in rmd. There are a
lot of Howard Cosell here who don't want to accept my name change, but
even Howard came around eventually

I'd go along with that

People do tend to speak their mind more freely under the cloak of
anonymity.

Those bastards. I never knew we invaded Canada. I hear that if it
wasn't for Benedict Arnold getting shot (before he switched sides)
Canada would've been part of America.

And here I was thinking that you were being referred to as 'Don'
because of your mafia connections.
Very well, RR to me, you are.
~GJ~
Well, for all you care, I've always been thinking the exact opposite.
Nicks are for trolls and morphers.
Why hiding your real status if not for malign purposes?
Fear of being stalked?
Really?
mmmmm....it doesn't seem realistic, to me.
If you never attack, you'll never be harrassed, imo.
Unless you bump into *real* weirdos, but this might happen everyday in real
life, mightn't it?
And, disregarding present posters (most of them are excellent even though
they hide behind nicks) don't you think it's meaningful that all the best
posters back in the good old days, form Peter Stone Brown to John Howells,
from John Lettiere to Alan Fraser, from Maureen Leblanc to Patricia
Jungwirth were people NOT hiding behind nicknames?

Cool. Of course the feller who wrote that was so vile & depraved in
nature that an attempt has been made to expunge all of his posts from
the record. Unsuccessfully.

Oh Please!
Only an idiot displays their full name and email address on Usenet.
That's
not even a valid point.
When you have something intelligent to say, Ken......jump in.

Just fer the record... Howard Cosell's birth name was Howard William
Cohen, which of course might itself have been a "slave name" as you
have it.
Furthur for the record, Cosell was the first & for quite a while the
only media person to address Muhammed Ali publicly by that name. Of
course it was a fascinating relationship the two had, mutual
selfPromotion, but hey. I sense a sincerity underlying those
exchanges.
& who will ever forget "Ladies and gentlemen, the Bronx is burning"?
Probably a lot of people have already.
Sincerely,

Perhaps I should begin using my real name, Scorpio Jackson.
~GJ~
All these people that you mention,
Yes, I know them, they're quite gone
I like the way, beppe, you've conveniently forgotten when a friend of
mine in rmd, and an ex-friend of yours, changed his name to a nickname,
and I had to explain to you that he did so because he was threatened by
someone here. I had a similar threat from this person.
I go along with that. Never saw the big fear, or whatever you would call it
in using your real name, but I do disagree that you can be attacked without
harassing someone.
Maybe I should use my real name too.
But Barbara is the feminine of Bob, I kind of like it.
No, I hadn't forgotten, RR.
I perfecly remembered it.
Re-read my post considering this and you've got my opinion.
And when you add *conveniently* to your assumption (malign?) that I had
forgotten Mr. J. (an ill feeling per se), the picture becomes absolutely
complete.
In reference to other threads, too.
In the end the love you take is equal to the love you make.
NOT. but i try to play one on the innernet.
Here's to best of us,
& here's to the rest of us.
Just one kind favour i ask of you... don't spill any squid ink on my
white velour sofa.
(well, i mean there have to be SOME rules.)
ThanksInAdvance,

I started out using my real name on RMD, but then all my posts
starting turning up on Google's general search along with my
professional references and yielded a firestorm of complaints from
folks who didn't want their names turning up in engineering software
web searches mirrored somewhere in Asia, especially when the thread
contains four letter words posted in responses by evil, horny or just
plain disruptive posters. Sensitive to the concerns of my legitimate
group-mates, I changed it to an abbreviated version of my real name
but after a few harrowing calls was inspired to change it again to an
assumed name to fool the Angel of Death. That selected pseudonym got
trashed by some folks around here who hated it so I changed it yet a
third time, this time to a phrase from one of Bob's best latter day
songs and one that definitely fits. All I can say now is that no one
complains, the Google searches are clean and that pesky ol' angel is
flying' over someone else's house tonight...
Now what can we do about this A. Crimony character who keeps coming
around? Ain't this place supposed to have collegial atmosphere
reflecting our common interests in one of the literary titans of our
time? I've an idea: Next time it happens, let's circle our wagons!
What say you, Gramps? Time for a pow-wow?

Hey there Barbara!
I thought you knew all along; is this good or bad?
Not specifically, Just. The idiot quote is from a fellow who
frequented this space; it's from '03. He was not a nice person. If
you're that guy, then it's proof of the possibility of redemption. I
believe yer a different Ken, too.

& that sure makes sense. I thnik Google, like money, changes
everything. This is not our daddy's UseNet.
Myself i kind of like thinking that someday my grandkidz can google
this old fart & find out what he was at.

Dunno. Probably this stuff ebbs & flows, & even at its worst this
place is a fur site better than many. By the way, did i ever tell you
i thnik yer a clueless jerk?
> What say you, Gramps? Time for a pow-wow?
I'd be in it for the teepee creepin' if nothin' else.
K, got go mix up some aural medicine... tryin' to redeem my sorry ass.
Best,
dudley
missed the "insert winking smiley emoticon here", buddy.
I believe Katherine Hepburn said that.
